We Just Sold our Car!

We sold our car just now! We have had it for almost three years and it only had just over 8,100 miles on it.
We didn’t want to deal with covidiots stopping by to look at it, so called the dealer and dealt with the salesman who sold us the car. After sending him photos and mileage, (he drooled at the mileage) we agreed on a price.
He called this afternoon and just arrived with a hefty check. Hubs wore a mask, signed over the car, and here we are! Easy peasy.
We still have an SUV and my sports car in the garage. Since we aren’t going anywhere in this pandemic, we haven’t put the sports car back on our insurance policy. We put off buying a new car, too, though the salesman told us about a beautiful brand new sedan he has with our name on it.
Besides, I’m hoping for a different car when we’re in the market again.

@DianneN we each have a vehicle. I would love to trade mine in and get newer model. But, we are saving to buy a home, so that is out. Have to take some of that rainy day money to fix some rusted areas. Have to keep it going. Maybe one day I'll hit the lottery. LOL

@DianneN I had to sell my car while I was in chemo. I wasn´t driving then, but the car needed a lot of care anyway. After that, I was only going sometimes to the neighborhood and to the supermarket so I decided that an Uber was cheaper for me.

Exactly! However, hubs just took the SUV out to run a couple of errands. He also took the trickle charge off the sports car and started it up. It needs to be driven, so he's going to take the standby insurance off and reinstate our regular insurance. It's too high powered to sit in the garage for 6 months and he's worried about it.

Your older car will sell in two days, with that kind of mileage! That salesman saw a great opportunity, to make a quick sale tomorrow:) We possibly will cut back to one vehicle for a while, but Jay's still undecided about it. I stay home a lot, but having two modes of transportation is a God sent!

@kobesbuddy Your son is lucky he has her.
My father raised us knowing that a fool and his money are soon parted.
We live within our means, and are blessed that our kids can, too.

I'm sure it will and for much more than we were given for it.
My hubs just left the house in the SUV to run a couple of errands in his mask and gloves. I have the sports car in the garage uninsured and with a trickle charge going to keep both batteries going. If I need to go somewhere, which I won't, my son is 2 minutes away working from home. Our third car is sitting in Florida, on insurance hiatus, waiting for no one to return for maybe 2 years or until this virus is long gone. When that happens, we will buy a big, beautiful dream car for sure!!!

@DianneN Our financial situation hasn't changed, except we are spending more frugal, saving like crazy, and not making purchases unless it's an absolute need. We didn't talk about this, instead it was just our natural response to the insecurity that encompasses the entire world. Any day now, the stock market could crash through the floor, tripping off another 'depression.' People should use wisdom as much as possible, yet remain calm. The worst part, many have no idea how to make a wise decision!

Thank you! It gave a smooth ride and we loved it.
We were going to buy a new car, but decided now isn't the time with the virus. We sold it because we have two other cars, one a new SUV that we bought last July. We aren't using the cars much anymore and staying home. The insurance on that car was a fortune and made no sense to insure it if we aren't out and about like we were before the pandemic.
Hubs just started the sports car and decided to take the insurance off standby. It needs to be driven and driven fast and often before it rots and gets ruined in our garage. It hasn't been driven since we left for Florida in early December!

@jayanth_77 We would never rent it out. Our boys drive it, but it's not good in the snow or ice which we get in our winters. So our only option is to put a trickle charge on it to keep the batteries alive until we return.

@DianneN The sports car needs lot of driving . May be you could rent it out if you are not using so that it remains in good working condition.

That's the way to go when you are in the market to sell. I have a bunch of things that I found we no longer need. Not going to put it out in a tag sale. I don't deal well with people lately. So, I am giving them to a man that will take it off our hands. He resells it at his own tag sale.

@DianneN I would like to drive to a place where we can relax and enjoy ourselves. But, so does everyone else and I am not one to be in crowd of people these days.

That seems like an easy transaction. I am not sure what I am going to do with my car yet,,,it will depend on how much it costs to get it inspected I guess. Right now I am leaning toward keeping it..but we will see. It probably makes the most sense.

@snowy22315 Only you can decide. As I said, now is the time. The dealers would love to make a deal.

@DianneN sounds like a good idea.
Cars like that don't deserve to be stuck in a garage.

Thanks. It's good to have it gone now.
We have a Mercedes SL5something AMG. Hubs just took off the trickle charge and started it up. The insurance is on standby, but he's putting it back on regular insurance. That car is meant to fly, and he doesn't want to ruin it by letting it rot in the garage.

Well, we do like luxury cars these days. We've had 5 Mercedes Benz including the sports car we still have, a Jaguar, a BMW, and two Lexus sedans. One Lexus is in Florida. I'm dying for a Bentley or Mercedes, but hubs loves the way a Lexus drives. Very smooth ride.

@DianneN The reason why my husband sold his sport car is because it was sitting in the garage for too long. After he had his spine problem he was not comfortable sitting in it.
We have public transportation, but it is slow, we need at least one car, and I would say that one is enough, as I do not drive.
A new car to go nowhere makes no sense.

@DianneN In a dress it was not easy even when we were young with some big cars. I could still get in and out easily, but he really had a hard time.
I know that he would like a second car... because you never know, just in case the car would have a problem. He knows that he can call our local dealer and they will bring a courtesy car, he has no excuses.

@LadyDuck I can imagine why it was necessary for your husband to sell his car. It's getting more and more difficult for us to get in and out of ours, too. I slide in, but getting out is becoming tough, especially in a dress.
Since you don't drive, it makes sense to have one car.
Exactly. A new car sitting in the garage for a long, long time would be crazy!!!!

Yeah, why get an insurance when we do not really travel. Now, that is food for thought because one of our cars is due for insurance renewal in August.

@DianneN that is correct. When your travels are restricted, there is no need to be fully insured.

@Alexandoy That's right. We put two cars on hiatus when we are in Florida or home. One phone call picks up the insurance as soon as we're ready.
