This is a writing app that I used for my writing years ago. I loved it because it kept my notes handy and organized. I even put the app on my flash drive and that is how I found it when I opened up my writing files. So, I downloaded yWriter but it can't open my info I saved, the picture I uploaded is the message I got. I guess I didn't save it right? Anyway, it's too bad this app isn't one where I sign in so if my computer is down, and no matter how long it takes me to op-en it again, my information would still be there and accessible. Any writers here who use yWriter? Is there a better app, similar to this but I would be able to save my information online?

This is the first time I know about yWriter, a software for novel writing. This is good writing novel organizer.

@Nakitakona Cool, you should keep me updated, because having another writer to keep you motivated and can be helpful in critiquing is wonderful.

@Carmelanirel2 If I have time I will try this. I'm planning to write a short story with a few chapters.

@owlwings said I could contact the owner of yWriter, see if he can help me. Then, maybe I suggest to him to allow one to create an account where his or her work is saved online in case something happened to the computer.

If you ran the app from your flash drive, the folders it requires will be on your flash drive. There is at least one hidden folder which contains essential information about your files. If you have downloaded and installed the latest version (v6 Full), I am not sure how it copes with earlier versions. I see that it will open files created in v5 but I don't know about earlier versions. I think that your best option would be to contact Simon, describing where your files are and what version of the software you created them in (your current version of Windows would be good, as well) and asking for instructions in where to put the files you have in order to access them. There are quite a few similar apps which I've tried (briefly) but none which has quite the ease of use and range of tools which yWriter has. You may want to look at yEdit, too. It;s a handy little editor which has an autosave facility (have you ever lost a document because you forgot to save it?) and would be very good for writing discussions here as well as for doing the actual writing bit for yWriter.

Originally it was used on my desktop, but when I felt my computer was about to crash, I don't know exactly what I did, I probably took the desktop app and dropped it into a folder on my flash drive. Who is Simon? Is that who I contact about issues with yWriter?

@Carmelanirel2 Simon Haynes is the sole owner and programmer for Spacejock Software, who made yWriter and other apps.

@owlwings Great, so maybe he can help me. However, if he can't, maybe that means I need to change where I was going with my novel and just need to start all over again. Thank you.

This software is mostly for people who write long articles or books, I used it for my novels and short stories. It looks like @owlwings has something, at least I hope he does.

I still don't think if I sent it to my email it would open. I believe, maybe because my version is older than the version I just downloaded, might be the reason it won't work.

It's a software program to save notes when one is writing large papers, like a novel.
