First I want to mention how interesting it is that I can't type in "mylot.com" on my browser, so I have to get here through my email notifications, which is fine, I just think it's interesting.
Now for my subject, photoshop alternatives, because I can't remember how I created this one photo, by placing a picture onto another, the second one being a background. So I got this site for photoshop alternatives and out of them all, I am thinking "gimp" or "sumopaint" would be best.
here is the link to the alternatives:
However, before downloading, maybe I can get feedback on these apps so I can choose wisely. What have you used?

I think he commented on my other post about how to do this, I don't think he had the answer.

I don't like web-based editors because they are usually limited and have many gimmicky things which either I don't need at all or which are very limited in what they do. Also, I don't like cut-down software such that, when you want to use a particular function, you find that it's only available in the full version or that it's a module or add-on which you have to pay for.
I think that that cuts out practically all of the ones in the list you linked to except Gimp, which I have used for many years and have been very happy with. I also use Irfanview and Paint-dot-net, both of which are free. Irfanview is a basic (but still quite powerful) photo editor. It doesn't have layers but it can adjust colours, apply effects and rotate and resize images as well as many other things. Paint, net was originally developed as a 'big brother' to Microsoft Paint (the very basic free app which comes with Windows). It uses layers and is probably the app which I use most often, Gimp is open-source freeware and has (so many people more expert than I have written) around 95% of the functionality of Photoshop - and that missing 5% consists of things that only the most advanced users would need.

@Carmelanirel2 I'm almost certain that Gimp will do what you need. The user interface is rather different from Photoshop so be prepared for a bit of learning and a need for patience! There are quite a few good sites with tutorials and some forums (which I haven't ever used except to read).

Yes, that is why I hesitated to download anything only to find out I would have to pay for a full version to do what I want. So you think Gimp can do what I need? I'm still confused how just a few months ago I did this editing without any extra software and can't remember where I did it.
Oh, and I heard back from Simon, I think I either didn't save it correctly or I didn't have as much on yWriter as I thought, so I am starting over. I did ask if he could explain how I can save my info on my flashdrive to open on another computer if this happens again.

@owlwings I never had photoshop, so I don't know how it works and I think I had gimp before, but it wasn't what I used for this project. I can't believe I didn't remember how I did it.
