In the closet

You might look at this picture and think "Oh well that's not so bad"
I would agree with you, but half of the things in the closet do not need to be there. I got rid of one box, and it was a big box, but most of the stuff in the box is still in the closet. All I did was get rid of the box.
There is more that needs to go. Those bag of shoes are one of them. I do not wear those types of shoes anymore and so I do not need them. The clothes in the bags are the same, I do not wear them.
Most of the boxes are full of things that are not even mine, yet I do not know what to do with them.
At least it looks neat. At least I got rid of one or two things.
At least I am working at it.
Have you done any organizing?

I saw a video once of a woman who paid someone to come in and help her organize her wardrobe. They took everything out and helped her decide what could be donated and what could be kept. Then they brought ikea type organizers and organized her clothes, and even her makeup.

@thelme55 I think I would get upset or angry with someone like that, especially if they wanted me to throw out something that had a sentimental value for me.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have seen a tv show like that. I can't allowed anybody decide for me what to throw or not.

Your closet looks better than my two closets here. I did reorganized the refrigerator yesterday.

Still need to get to that. My problem is that we have only one trash barrel, and me doing this is creating a lot of trash.
Thank You. I might look at closet organization solutions when I'm ready to start really organizing things.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah I had a lot of trash too yesterday. I am cleaning out the cabinet under the kitchen sink on Wednesday which means more trash.

@JESSY3236 Sounds like you're getting things done too. We can put trash bags on the porch and put them in as we can, but I don't want to pile up too many of them on the porch.

For the longest time I kept telling myself "I'll get to it eventually."
Now I really only need to tackle a few areas of my bedroom, and then I'll try to move on to other areas of the house that I can control.

I have the habit of keeping boxes like that too. "Oh but what if I need to return it?" yet that never happens.

Yes, I agree. It will get done eventually. A friend of mine offered her assistance one day this week, but the problem is that she has her stepdaughter and the girl may get underfoot, even if she doesn't mean to.

I understand that. A clean space makes a clear mind.

Just took care of one small box I brought up from the garage/shed. Sat right by a trash bag and threw most of it away.

That's great! That is what I have been trying to do lately, getting rid of the "out of sight, out of mind" things that have accumulated.

I will organize, reorganize, and wittle things down til is manageable . . . but I will take too much time doing it - and doing it again . . . that in the end I should have just gotten rid of most of it from the beginning . My way is "working on" too .

@ScribbledAdNauseum Hee hee - we sure are trying ! I think about each item too much . . . the memories or that I might be able to use it later. Maybe I am a closet hoarder .

@much2say I am so bad about the "I might be able to use this later." thing.
I'm trying to be better about that myself. Half the stuff that was in the closet before belonged in that category.

See, this is exactly what I was thinking. I should just get rid of the stuff instead of whittling it down, but I don't do it that way. Partially because a lot of this stuff just needs to go in the trash.
Hey! Atleast we are working on it though, right?

I need to tackle the kitchen again as well. There is one cupboard that I need to go through but I've been dreading it because of how it's laid out.

@rakski It does, but I can see the end in sight for my bedroom. Then I will tackle the bathroom organization once more and that won't take long.

I have an ongoing project of downsizing. Why not donate the things in the boxes that aren't yours?

Some of the things are matchbox cars. Other things are tools. I told two of my friends that I would figure out which tools I wanted to save and then whatever else I didn't need, I'd see if they wanted.
Donating stuff doesn't seem to be the easiest thing in this house. I've donated a few things over the years, but there are still other things that have been needing donated but it's boils down to several things. Communication between family members, lighting a fire under said family members behinds, and social anxiety.

@LindaOHio It really, really is.
I am not confident in nailing something into a wall, so I asked a relative to do it for me the day before yesterday. I had to wake him up for his medicine so I asked him then. He said "give me one one more snooze", so I did. He then took his medicine and started to say "I hate to do this, but..." and I interrupted him and said "Nope, sorry not gonna happen. This will literally take you less than five minutes so get up and do it now."

@ScribbledAdNauseum Lighting a fire under said family members behinds is quite a difficult obstacle.

I have to donate clothes that don’t even fit me anymore. My closet has so many things that I don’t even need or use. It’s organized but had things that I don’t need. I could have so much more space in there.

I have been thinking a lot about my clothes too. There are really only about five or six outfits that I wear at a time. The only thing in the picture that really needs to stay is the plastic dresser, the thing on top of the plastic dresser and the annuals on the top shelf. Everything else should be tossed.

@Ladanger Yes I can. A lot of the things that I've thrown away over the past several weeks and years were things that belonged to deceased loved ones. There is a box of cards in the closet that were my brothers. He kept nearly, if not all of the cards he got over the years. They stay there because I don't have the heart yet to throw them away.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I tend to hold onto things that I don’t need. Do you get emotional throwing things out?

The clothes hanging up, and the clothes in the plastic dresser are what will most likely be kept. There are some things in that basket on top of the dresser that need to be donated. The books on the top of the shelf are my high school annuals. Everything else can mostly be tossed.

@Nevena83 I am still working on it. I need to make another donation pile, and of course throw somethings into the recycle bin or treash.

This closet isn't really used. The clothes that are hanging up are clothes I wear, but not often. I need to organize my dresser (not pictured) and donate most of the clothes I have in it.

@dikshasethi1 I actually buy most of my clothes from thrift type stores, so it's like I am returning them to the donation places.

I try..it is hard to know what to do with things. I have to honestly get ruthless and just start tossing or donating.

That is what I have been trying to be, ruthless.
It helps that I have a friend that is set to do some more cleaning of her own, so we hype each other up.

My closet could use a makeover. I think gremlins sneak in during the night and put things in my closet. I also have shoes I'll never wear again as well as boxes of things I have no idea what's in them.
Your closet does look neat and organized

Gremlins were definitely sneaking in and adding things to the "if I can't see it, it's not there" pile in my closet. I want to actually use this as a closet though so I need to get to work on it.

I went through our wardrobe and chest of drawers a few Monday's ago and ever since I've had two piles of clothes sitting on the spare bed, patiently waiting for me to take them to the charity bin in the car park. I don't want to lug them down there only to find it's not available for putting clothes in! The charity shop in town hasn't opened yet and the Fire Brigade clothing bin is too far for me to carry lots of clothes to! They'll probably stay there for another couple of months, knowing me!

Yes. that is the problem here. Lots of people spent the time going through their things to donate, I bet most donation bins are full. We have some donation bins that we can access all the time, but those belong to church groups and are usually only found in rural areas.

I need to call goodwill and see if they are still doing the trucks or if I will have to go to the actual goodwill store. There is quite a lot here we need to donate, and the only way to do it is to just get started with it.
