Australia's Ten Dollar Note

Every country has its own currency and I’ve written about our $20 and $50 notes some time ago. The ten dollar note has been issued in several different guises. Since September 2017 it has been a polymer note with a transparent window. There are two portraits of famous Australian poets on the note. AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson is featured on the obverse and Dame Mary Gilmore on the reverse. Arguably, Paterson’s most famous poem was The Man From Snowy River which later was adapted to a high-grossing film. The centre panel is transparent and hopefully you can make out a pen nib, two images of a sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) and finally a windmill. The edges of the panel feature the bramble wattle (Acacia victoriae). It’s quite an attractive note, don’t you think?

Did the Australian currency also carry photos of Queen Elizabeth?

A lot of our currency has had images of the queen.

@piyushbhatia1 She is our sovereign but really it's just in name only. Britain has no say now in how we govern our country.

I read about this note a month ago, someone said this ten dollar note has covid-19 picture on it (the clear circle with furry white stuff on the edge). I had a good laugh.

Haha - yes, I can see that. I must get a photo of our wattle tree as it's in bloom now.

@JudyEv Oh, so that furry thing is the symbol of the wattle blooms? Dear God! (I never thought of that, I thought it was the crown of the queen or something similar...)

@Tampa_girl7 Our mint prints some really nice coins too but the market is coin collectors. It's a money-making business for them.

It's very pretty and quite colorful. Hubs and I kid around with foreign money and say it all looks like Monopoly money or play money. We are used to the good old green of the US of A.

It does seem that our currency is a bit more attractive than that of some countries.

Money, not in the US, is so beautiful. Our (US) coins are pretty, our notes are boring!

We have found the notes pretty 'ordinary' in other countries too.

@DocAndersen It's decades since we were in Thailand so I don't remember the currency there.

@JudyEv Malaysia has amazing notes, so does Thailand. The Euro replaced so many beautiful currencies!

It's very beautiful, I hope our country would start issuing polymer notes, with our weather and humidity paper does not last very long and it's getting more expensive to produce them than the value of the note itself lol

The polymer has been used for a while now. I put one through the wash once and I can tell you - they don't like being ironed dry!!

All our notes are quite pretty. I like how they have all this different 'stuff' on them - that most of us never notice and don't know anything about.

Wow! Poets on bills! In my country, it’s mostly national heroes or presidents.

It is similar to what we had when i was a kid. 100.000 rupiah, the highest note we have. Is that The Queen in the reserve?

Maybe you do too but the different colours make it easier to differentiate between the values.
