To Do - Done Over

I won't go into detail because people here read maybe one paragraph at the most before they zone out and give random responses that have little, if nothing, to do with what is written. It's the truth!
Anyway, No go for the tiles that I said I'd work on earlier. So here's a picture of the AFTER of my shelf. I will need to remove everything again when I go to move the shelf, and that is when the majority of things will be thrown out.
It's a lot of jigsaw for this process, and a bit of a waiting game. More needs to be done in the closet as well, but that is a waiting game too.
There is a shelf above my desk, one of the hanging kind, that I need to organize. Really it just amounts to finding a new home for some stuffed toy machine animals that I never really needed in the first place.
I should probably figure out a system for my books too.

It seems like organizing is a never-ending thing. I keep finding things that can be donated and that I really don't need and haven't used in months...or years.

Yesterday I was in need of a decorative bulb for a little church that I have. Where did I find one? In a never used night light. Though now that I think of it, I should have bought more bulbs today because that night light could be used in the bathroom.
It's so hard to part with things though, isn't it?

@LindaOHio I am trying to part with as much as I can, and encourage the other members of my family to do the same, but that is like running into a brick wall, backing up and then running into it again.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Not any more! I'm getting rid of stuff that I used to keep and saying, "Why did I ever hang on to this?" :-)

Most of the books you see were absolutely free. I've told myself that once that shelf is completely full of books, I am going to stop buying them and start digitally buying them.

@simone10 I sold the dvds that used to belong to my brother. We still have so many of those, but they are now in a spot that is hard to get to. I made about $250 in cash from the sell of them, but I also got vouchers for the store I sold them to. So I got half cash and half vouchers, and it was the vouchers I used to buy the books.

We have books everywhere - including the garage, but we need more bookshelves in here. My friend had a great idea for the many book shelves that go from their dining area to the living room (crafts stuff, books, teacher stuff, photo frames, etc etc). She put tension poles at the top of the book shelf insides and put curtains on it so all the shelf contents can be hidden away. It really does make a difference in making the room look neater . . . I've been wanting to do that (but haven't ).

I've seen that done in pictures before. It is a neat idea. I like the look of canvas totes to hold some things and placed on a shelf too..

I'm still working on things here, but it's gotten a lot better. My whole room has been rearranged and I'm nearly done with the stuff that needs to go to Goodwill.

Yes, but there was nothing for it. I had to do it that way because I had to take into consideration the trash barrels outside. With that being said, I'm not moving the shelf like I had planned to before. Now it's just a matter of throwing a few things out.

I agree. Though some of this is a long, long time coming.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have long over due projects. Weeding the garden has taken over, though.

I like the bookshelf. I also need a system for my books. When I want to throw out things hubby slows me down.

It belonged to my brother. He always bought very sturdy furniture.
I have seen a lot of recommendations on how to organize books, but I think the best way is to keep well loved books within reach, and then go by author and genre.

Oh my God, I need that cushion. Love it!
Also, I did read this post, but that cushion trumps everything you wrote!

A friend bought it for me off of Etsy several years ago.

Thank You. Really I just tried to make them look somewhat neat. This won't be the way they stay arranged though.

This is just temporary. I plan to move the shelf entirely soon.
