Too hot to trot? Running in the summer time.

So, I'll be going for a run tonight. I run every 3 or 4 days and usually run about 10k each time. I have not been running long but find that I really enjoy the challenge of trying to beat my own times. I'm not fast, that's for sure, but I love to get faster and beat my own times. The greater challenge that I face at the moment is the increasing temperature as summer arrives. Tonight it will be around 25°C with the humidity at about 70%. This is not too bad but sometimes it can be a lot worse. The temperature doesn't cause too many problems but the humidity can be a big issue. Last week I ran 10k when it was only 21°C but the humidity was 88%. It added 7 minutes to my finish time and the whole run was tough. I still loved the post run high I was rewarded with as I always do, it makes it all worth while. So what do I do to prepare? Well, when it's hot and humid, water is the key for me. I carry half a litre of water with me during the run and drink plenty of water before and after. Other than this, I just get on with it. If it gets too tough, I can cut the run short or even collapse into one of the many bars along my route for a nice cold drink. The best feeling however is when I push on and do the distance, you can't beat that feeling. I wonder what other runners do to prepare for running in the hot weather, whether at night or during the day, do they enjoy it, find it too much or just avoid it all together? I look forward to your comments.

I'm pretty sure as the summer goes on, into July and August, that it will be getting a lot hotter than that! I love the hot weather but it makes running interesting

@paigea Taking it easy in the hot weather is a very good idea, when you're only racing yourself, you are always going to win anyway Take it easy and enjoy your cycling!

@SteveVilero I have never jogged. I like to walk so I can imagine if the humidity is high how that would cause a problem. Great idea to bring water with you.

@erictsuma Morning is a great time to run, I usually run at about 9:30pm, unfortunately that means the humidity is still hanging around.
