Yesterday was quite interesting

On Saturdays we usually watch a teaching from our favorite Rabbi, then go to a friend's house where we do some studying and then we eat. However, yesterday's plans went into a different direction, somewhat similar to what happened with my son when he couldn't get on his computer. (You can read about that here: So yesterday morning was like most Saturdays, until an hour into the teaching when we lost power. (It was raining, but no lightening, but like I told my son, it could have happened miles from us) Anyway, this was abut 11 in the morning and the power company estimated it would be back on by 2. That was good, because I was going to make blintzes for dinner, however, around 2:30, they pushed the time to 4. I ended up making a salad from the romaine lettuce in my garden and some strawberries I had for the blintzes. My husband wasn't feeling well, so he stayed home and my son and I left. We got back about 7 and my husband said the power didn't come back on until 5, but then we realized our internet was not working. Again, anther outage, they estimated it would be back on around 8, but it was probably closer to after midnight because it was till out when I went to bed, and was back on this morning. So, I thought it was pretty cool, because my son watched a movie with us (he never watches a movie with us unless it is at a theater) and I felt it was a little family time that we rarely get. Truthfully, I wouldn't mind more outages like that, since it is technology that has divided my family. What about you? Do you feel technology has cause a division in your family?
Actually my plans haven't changed, I just probably won't do as much as I wanted to. That is because of what happened this morning. First, a little background....

I have tried making one evening a week a non-technology day, which would include the tv, but my guys won't have any of it.

@gr8nana6 Well, it won't make too much difference here since we have no a/c, but we have a place to swim.

Not really but somehow it has an effect like that. I usually give time for my family from time to time without being on internet. We just have to give ourselves a break sometimes from internet and give those to our family

That is wonderful that you are able to do that. Your family won't get addicted like mine are.

I'm glad you got some family time in! I think in every family at least a little wedge has been formed from technology. My older kids are grounded right now so no technology for them lately anyway.

Well, I am glad you had some family time. Yes, definitely technology has divided us. I am on my computer in my room, and the other two are either asleep now or watching television / using the computer in another room. I try to pop in and talk to them throughout the day. I love power outages provided the weather outside is cool enough that it won't be so hot in the house, but also not get too cold in the house either. If I was in the middle of doing something I get aggravated, but overall I think it's nice to be able to just stop and chat with family, or read by candlelight.

@Carmelanirel2 Well, he would only be able to text for so long before he'd drain his battery, unless he recharged it in the car.

Unfortunately, I would need the phone off too, otherwise my son just texts his friends.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Ah, you are right and he can't charge it in the car, I have an older car so it takes a special charger to plug into it.

Yes and no. But I hate when the power goes out and I don't like it when my internet goes out. My uncle had bundled my landline with the internet so when the internet or power goes out, I have no way to call anyone.

It was different and nice, hate that is what it takes to get my family together, even though my son did spend some time texting his friends.
