Well, this wasn’t intentional. I didn’t mean to have a bunch of war songs in the same day. But that’s how things go when I do more than one countdown at a time: occasionally there’ll be coincidences. This tends to go along well with “The Battle of New Orleans”....or today’s headlines, sadly.
#2: Life During Wartime - Talking Heads
There were a few Talking Heads songs I could have picked for this countdown: “Found a Job,” “The Big Country,” “Listening Wind,” and “Don’t Worry About the Government” don’t have the titles in the songs. No, I went with the “big hit.”
Well, asterisk. While this wasn’t a big charted hit, it is definitely one of the classics of FM rock and Talking Heads’ career. Some people have to refer to this as “This Ain’t No Party, This Ain’t No Disco” to get others who aren’t familiar with the actual title to understand which song this is. (Sort of like Led Zep and the song I used earlier in the countdown, “D’yer Mak’er,” it’s the “oh, oh, oh, oh oh oh” song. )
It’s hard for me to believe this song is over 40 years old now. It sounds so much like what’s going on today. And that is DEFINITELY not a party, not a disco, and not any fooling around.
