No relation to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40; rather, it’s the hillbilly’s top ten songs that feature “America” (or “American”) in the title! And I just noticed that a few of these “America” songs aren’t by Americans at all! What gives! Here’s today’s song for you.
#9: Breakfast in America - Supertramp
Case in point: England’s Supertramp (the name of the band, not a reference to a woman of loose morals with extraordinary powers ). The title song from their mega album (which I gleefully purchased as soon as I got out of boot camp) is a stereotypical look at the U.S. (“they’ve gotta have ‘em in Texas ‘cause everyone’s a millionaire”) from the perspective of someone who’s never been here (“take a jumbo ‘cross the water, I’d like to see America”).
We obviously enjoyed the joke, as this was Supertramp’s biggest album in the U.S.
Breakfast in America
Written by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson

That album was huge! I guess Roger Hodgson did like America after all. He went to California and he moved there in 1973 and has lived there ever since.
