Grew Our Dinner for Tonight!

We returned back to Connecticut from Florida too late in the season to plant vegetables from seeds. However, I ordered a few plants from an organic farm to try my hand at farming. This is our one and only cauliflower plant. We grew it close to a wall of our house, and hubs protected it from the critters with an old window screen. It looks small in the photo, but it’s as large as my hubby’s foot! I wish I had bought more, but we will pick it and eat some of it with dinner tonight! I’m so proud of me! I feel like a farmer.

Thanks! It was a miracle the screen worked for us, but the deer polished off my nearby daylillies.

@CarolDM That's what my husband says, but I have a large supply of deer repellent now, and it's doing its job. I just have to remember to use it when due.

@DianneN I did not know that the deer are so voracious, but several myLotters are complaining that they eat everything in the garden. I am glad they do not come down from the woods here.

Thank you! I never grew it before and was so happy it did so well. The screen and a rhododendron helped a lot. But the deer ate the nearby daylilies.

Thanks!!!! I definitely will buy more, especially since I will probably be in Connecticut then. I was so pleased that it grew so well for me. For tonight's portion, I will only steam it to keep the nutrients. For tomorrow's date night, I will have to fancy it up with a recipe.

@DianneN That´s a good idea. Steamed veggies are healthy. I forgot, it is almost Friday again. Time flies too fast. I will be making fruit salad for the recipe that I am going to write for the summer edition of the Filipino-German Magazine. I think this will be my dinner tonight. Have a nice day.

Once I was told that the most expensive veggies I ate were the ones I grew myself. I did not mind. Your cauliflower is a beaut. I love them with homemade mayo (sometimes with a bit of crushed garlic). But a couple of days ago I cooked them too much (I like them al dente) and made fritters. Delicious.

Are you impressed? The leaves are ultra huge and kept me from seeing how it was growing. The leaves can be fried until crisp like kale, but I will toss them into the woods for the critters to nibble. Thanks! I'm so excited!!!!!!

You should be. I told myself that I will start my own vegetable garden the moment I get back home. But until now what I planted is only a Philippine lemon tree. And yesterday, it was already flowering and I'm excited to see little lemon soon. I don't know how to plant from seeds actually so I decided to just buy a seedling or a grown plant. But last weekend, my father in law gave us some avocados and I'm germinating two seeds. I learned from YouTube Hopefully it'll grow soon.

@DianneN I sure will. Danie is really a great mom. She perfectly knows how to take care of them. But when she's exhausted, she still runs to me fro a cuddle. That's why the whelping box is in the bedroom because I know Danie would still choose to be with me middle of the night.

I still can't believe that little baby actually had babies of her own!!! Please send me lots of photos when you have the time, Grandma!
