I am Italian so I grew up having ravioli. I had never had perogis before but my ex told me that they were like Polish ravioli but with potato instead of cheese. I always said that I wanted to try making them but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
Last night I was talking to one of my neighbors and she told me that she was making some homemade ones today. I told her that I had never had a perogi in my life but they sounded great--pasta and potatoes all in one little package.
There was a knock on the door before and there she was with a little paper plate of perogi with fried onions and a dollop of sour cream. I thanked her and brought them inside to eat.
They. Were. So. Good. Holy crap. I DEFINITELY need to learn how to make them myself. My Italian parents will be horrified but wow. Delicious!

I have never had pierogi but they sound like a sort of cross between ravioli and gnocchi (actually something else I've never eaten but i know what they are!). I guess that, if you've made ravioli then it's easy enough to make pierogi and fill them with whatever you want (I think I'd try spinach and feta cheese with the potato or maybe try some chili with a Mexican cheese).

I tried them once. They were the frozen ones though and were OK. I love potatoes, so there's that!
