We say good-bye to our Irish motor-home

After we bought the motor-home in Ireland (catch up here: https://www.mylot.com/post/3383236/the-time-we-bought-a-motor-home-in-ireland) we spent some time in Ireland then put the vehicle on the ferry and went to Cherbourg in France.
Over the next four months we toured parts of France, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. We then went back to England, attended our nephew’s wedding in Surrey, then headed up to Scotland before going back to Ireland.
We enjoyed ourselves so much we left the vehicle with our son until 2017 when we went back to Ireland and travelled around Ireland and France. In Bordeaux we met up with @topffer and spent a very pleasant sight-seeing under his expert guidance. We were away three months this time.
However, while we were in the Pyrenees, we scraped a roadside barrier. The body of the vehicle was slit but we were able to continue without any trouble. We sent photographs to the insurance company and were told to get quotes for repairs when we got back to Ireland.
Although the damage looked minor, it was a difficult repair job and in the end the insurance company decided to write off the vehicle. We were paid the 10,000 euro that we’d insured it for (and which was also the purchase price).
We had been able to use it to the very last day we were there. So we’d had seven months living in it and got the full amount of our purchase back. We could hardly believe we’d been so lucky.

Even without the van you will always remember the van and the memories tied with it.

Your purchase certainly turned out to be very fortuitous! You traveled to Scotland? That's one of the places I would like to visit. I could listen to the accent all day long. Have a great day.

@JudyEv I love the Australian accents too! It seems weird to me that people hear accents from us...and we have several different accents from region to region.

How lucky were you to get back your full purchase price on the motor home! I can't believe you essentially got to tour Europe practically for free! I say practically, because you obviously still had to pay for fuel for the vehicle.

@JudyEv But still, you got to do all that traveling for just the cost of fuel. You gotta like that!

This is also good that you got the amount equal to the purchase price. So did you receive this amount in 2017 itself or later?

I am surprised that they could not repair it for 10 000 Euros, but finally it was a good deal for you. I had not seen it in Bordeaux, you had parked it in a suburb, and it is the best to do in Bordeaux, where it is very expensive to park a vehicle.

@MarymargII I also kept a journal of sorts and between the two, I'm continually surprised at how much I've forgotten.
