Covid or depression

The whole world is suffering. Those with infection are the worst affected. and those left behind are suffering with depression. All because of lack of income, inability to resume old lifestyle and being house arrested is gradually taking many people towards depression. One of my husband's friend's father is Gradually seeping into depression because of staying inside the house for four months now.

Yes, depression is a worry, and it seems to be on the rise, within society. What is depression, and why are so many afraid of it, and being stuck in it? Depression, to me, is merely a ditch, or a deep well, that we have fallen into emotionally. We can still look at the ditch, and see the mushrooms growing in the soil there, and realise that depression is just another state that we go through, or stay in, and life itself is depressed at times, or jumping over itself, depending mostly on the energy alive in you, or depressed in you, by outer circumstances, which make you fall to the bottom of your own ditch, or well. The truth is though, that at the bottom of every ditch, or deep well, there is still a tap of energy, that we can turn on, when we are ready to do so. In the meantime, we should perhaps just enjoy the seat at the bottom of the well, or ditch, and do not try too hard to ditch it, nor to climb out of it, for now, otherwise, it will ditch you up in itself, by your thinking that it, this ditch, (or deep well, or bottomless pit) is the only reality, when the ditch always still exists within a far greater reality than just itself's existence.

@amitkokiladitya Well, the bottom is wherever you are right now, in a lot of ways, because the tap of energy renewal is available at every level. Everybody revives back in some ways to me, as nothing stands still; we are all growing like a plant does, whether we know this, or not. We are always growing forwards. Nothing goes backwards. Our depression is not all of us, just a blanket that we cover ourselves with at the moment. I feel that most people know this at some level. They are not their depression. All of this is only true though, if we believe in an afterlife, and that we are spiritual beings, or souls, greater than just our human selves are. If I didn't believe in that, my own depression would be a whole lot worse then too.

But there are only a few who can reach and explore the bottom. The rest remain clinged in between and are never able to revive back

@innertalks I really like this perspective, especially the blanket analogy... it's comfortably stifling and keeps you in bed when it's a beautiful day experience the world outside

My emotions run high and low these days. Maybe the low days are depression even though I've never had depression? This Covid certainly has affected us all one way or another. Hope your friends father gets help if he continues to slip into depression..

I have been diagnosed with Bipolar type 2 so I am well accustomed to depression. That being said, this time it feels different: it feels more sharp, like I am constantly feeling challenged by the simplest of daily activities. I have been jobless since before COVID, but now my job search is even more difficult because of it. I am going on 10 months without an income and I have lost everything: my apartment, my phone has been cut off, and I am about to sell my car in order to put food on the table for the next few months. I have been trying to find remote work opportunities that does not pay peanuts, but to no avail. Incidently the need for finding ANY form of income at all is what brought me here. You are right about many people sinking into depression because I see it in my family members as well, and that makes me feel worse because I cannot help them at all, I cannot even help myself, really. I didn't mean to sound dark and dreary - there are okay days when my family and I connect on levels I know would not be possible if we weren't stuck together.

That sounds really tough and things are really troublesome at your end. Have faith in God and if your efforts are true he will definitely show you a way out.

@amitkokiladitya thank you and I agree. No matter how hard it gets, I continue to move forward. My mother always used to say: they are not stumbling blocks but stepping stones

@amitkokiladitya Sadly, we may have to wait until a few more months to get the pandemic under control, if all went as planned.... The Oxford vaccine is showing a good promise, but the production and distribution worldwide may take even more time.

The whole world are feeling pretty same. Now a days depression is our companion. We should support each other, talk to our friends and relatives over the phone. We must engage ourselves in various different pass time works inside the home

But those who don't talk to others and keep things to themselves are usually the ones who are seeping towards depression

Yes, this virus is indeed a challenge to all of us as it has upended our lifestyle. We all feel caged in, imprisoned, deprived of our freedom to live a carefree lifestyle. I take comfort that no one is spared though I feel really sorry for those deprived of their income. They need help from all quarters - siva

The sad thing is that many people lose their only jobs, making it difficult to meet their basic needs. This obviously makes people depressed.
