Too Hot For Fireflies ( Lightning Bugs)

You know it's hot when even the fireflies or what I've always called them, lightning bugs don't come out. For a while every evening we could sit on the balcony and watch the lightning bugs. I can't remember now when we saw them last but it's been a while.
I've really enjoyed my brother working from home. He is home 3 days a week and has to go out of town 2 days a week. The property he goes to is only 2 hours away. I don't see him much during the day because he is in his office, but just knowing he is here is comforting. This week he has to go out of town 3 days starting today through Thursday and I'm really going to miss having him here.
My new recliner will be here tomorrow afternoon. I am so excited! I hope it lasts longer than the ones we have had in the past. This recliner costs a lot more, so we shall see how it holds up. I think it's leather so if Daisy gets sick again, it will survive.
I will be washing a couple of small loads of laundry today. Other than that, I don't have a lot planned. I will just play it by ear. What do you have planned for today?

It's been a long while since I've seen lightning bugs. They were always fun to see.
I'm glad your new recliner arrives tomorrow.
My day is going as usual, pool, here, a nap, maybe my book later, depending on the notifications. I'm trying to get them caught up as right now I don't plan to be here tomorrow, but that could change.

We see them here but not a lot. Now that it's so hot, I haven't seen any in a while.
My recliner came yesterday and I am so happy. It's electric which is great. Now, if the power goes off, I will probably think differently
I hope you are able to go on your trip.

Today is looking like it might be a bit overcast here.
I have to go out to a couple of busy places this morning.
My bank debit card will not let me tap to pay, so I called the telephone banking line and they ordered me a new one. I received it in the mail yesterday and will need to go into the branch to reset my PIN. My cellphone is starting to show its age, I am hoping to go to the Bell World store and buy a new one. Both places should be busy, I will wear my mask and pack my patience.

I miss the fireflies. There were lots in our former place when I was young.

I know exactly how you feel when your brother is working from home. I feel the same way on the days my daughter is working here and not at the office.
Enjoy your new recliner!!! I love my reclining sofa and probably spend more time sitting than I should ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

You do get lonely, don't you? I've gotten used to the two days he is gone but this week it's three days. I got the recliner yesterday and I love it. It's electric which is great. Now, if we have a power outage, that will be a different story.

@Marilynda1225 I can certainly understand you having PTSD from 9-11. That had to be horrible to live through. It was horrible enough for us that were home watching on TV. I'm so very sorry that you had to go through that. I would have moved also. No wonder you worry about your daughter driving and being in NY.
I agree that the power recliner does close slow. My brother commented on that last night saying maybe it wasn't a good idea to get one like that. I told him closing was a minor thing. I love being able to lay further back in a recliner. The one I had before, it was very difficult to lay back in it. It was impossible for me.

@simone10 I do get lonely occasionally but I feel more lonely now with the virus. My daughter has to drive to work in NY and although she really isn't around too many people I just get anxious knowing she's so far from home. This whole virus and quarantine thing really brought back all the PTSD from 9-11 when we lived in NY at that time. (one of the reasons we moved here to PA)
Enjoy your power recliner!! My sofa is also a power recliner and it's awesome (but a little slow closing)
The power went out once since I had mine but it came back on quickly so I didn't have to figure out a way to get off it ![](/Content/images/emotes/rofl.gif)

@simone10 I think mine was $1200 but I chose a very expensive fabric. My one in Florida I bought for $250 at a consignment store, a real bargain.

@BelleStarr The store here in Louisville didn't have anything lower than $3000.00. You did get a great bargain to only have to pay $250 for the one you bought in Florida.

I love leather, I just worry about Daisy and her feet. She has this bad habit of chewing and biting her nails. Not her feet, just the nails. Because of this, her nails can sometimes be a little ragged. She won't let me cut her nails, so we have to take her to the vet every now and then.

It's nice that your brother is working from home. When I bought my new recliner 3 years ago, the salesman told us that the electric ones last a whole lot longer because the footrest doesn't get that constant pressure from your feet. So far he is right because the footrest is the first thing to go; and we usually don't get more than 3 years from a recliner. Nothing planned here today. The landscapers came and cleared out the jungle from around the house so that the painters could paint.

That does make sense about the footrest. The footrest is always the first thing to go with me too. I hope what he said is true as this one is electric too. I'm so glad that you finally got someone to clear out all the vegetation around the house.

@LindaOHio That's one great recliner! I've only had 1 over the last 10 years that have lasted 3 years.

Lightening bugs are most active in early summer. I've still been seeing them my way. Each species has its own light flashing pattern, which helps them to attract mates of the same species. Pretty cool!
That recliner will come in handy when it's too hot to move or after doing your exercise for the day.

@simone10 They kind of hibernate in the ground during daylight and high temps. When it gets cooler at night and the temps are comfortable they will come out of hiding. That's my understanding from a site I found which describes their habits.
