When thunder roars, lights go off

It's a wonderful bright, sunny day in the morning as I started my first part of walking daily exercise.
As I ate my late lunch, suddenly the heavy rains started to pour out. Then a big thunder rolls, rumbles making out lights out for two hours.
I couldn't do nothing but to take a nap for no Internet signal.
What's up out there?
