Laughter is the Best Medicine

An apple a day keeps the doctor away is one of the English proverbs that I believe in because if a person eats healthy and nutritious food like fruits and vegetables, their health will improve and they don’t have to go see a doctor very often. The same goes for how laughter can help relieve stress and helps a person live a happier and healthier life. Laughter to me is the best medicine for a person because it helps a person keep life in perspective. One experience of how humor has helped me look at life from a funny perspective was a few years back when my teenage daughter was younger, we were attending church when she threw a fit and made a major disturbance, and no matter how much I tried to calm her down, people started to stare, so I picked her up and headed for the closest exit. My daughter was caught off guard and looking straight at my frustrated face, she said, “sorry mommy, I’m in trouble”, and that was how my anger was defused. I started to laugh as I heard some of the congregation laughing as well. I learned that day that humor and laughter is the best medicine to defuse anger, stress and will make a person feel good because when he or she laughs, the blood pressure and respiration as well as their heart beats will improve/lower. Laughter can indeed help a person’s body to release endorphins that help lower anxiety and depression.

Laughter is good when we laugh for the right reason; not laughing and poking fun at other people because that can cause problems. Sharing a funny comedy show, movie, talk show, or clean jokes are ways that we can laugh with friends, families, or just by ourselves.

Couldn't agree more. You have already said so much, sorta logical reasoning.
Starting from making a connection of that English proverb, adding a real-life example of your daughter, sharing your real-life experience from that example, and then finally backing it up by explaining the actual science behind laughter.
So, I'd just add that yeah, we should laugh, because we are designed to laugh.

Awesome observation! It looks like bright minds think alike! Therefore, I'll continue on having fun because it's good for my health.

i second you in that part because whenever we laugh, we are happy and stress level and blood pressure decreases. That is another reason why I enjoy watching comedies and funny movies.

Indeed and it lowers blood pressure. Personally, if I laugh at something funny, I feel great and not anxious like I would do if watching a horror movie or watch discouraging news on the television.

Most definitely. I'm assuming that those who laugh a lot have lower blood pressure? That's just my personal assumption, but really, how many people feel that while they are having fun and laughing are also experiencing anxiety or their blood pressure is out of the norm!

I absolutely agree with you and it has been one of my goals to laugh more often and not worry too much at stuff that are not important to me.

True and when the heart is happy, the body is happy with no more health problems.
