We Got Into a Water Exercise Class at the YMCA

Before we left for Florida, we were in a water exercise class 3 times a week. We have been in it for years. Of course, when we came back, the pandemic was in full force and the small warm pool at the YMCA was closed. My friend got into a class in the large cool pool but the class would be too hard for Al. Yesterday my friend called me to say she had just gotten into a class on the small pool with our regular teacher. We used to have up to 24 people in our class, now only 7 are allowed. By the time I logged in the class was full. However, there is another class on Thursday. It is a different teacher but it is in the small pool and will have only 7 people. We have been doing exercise at home using Youtube but Al needs more. His Parkinson's is getting worse and we need to nip this in the bud, exercise is the best weapon we have to fight the disease. Lots of safety things are in affect for our protection. This photo isn't the Y pool it is our pool in Florida.

I'm glad you were able to get enrolled in a class. Are both you and Al in the class, or is it just him? I agree that exercise is one of our best fights against so many diseases, including Parkinson's. I hope the class is enjoyable with your new teacher.

@BelleStarr That's nice that you both got to take the class together, and that you enjoyed your new instructor. Keep up the good work, as swimming is a great form of exercise and very therapeutic.

@BelleStarr My son and his family joined a pool club in NJ near his house. I don't know if I mentioned that they bought one, since the kids have no camp this summer. They still have their co-op in NY. Hardly anyone goes there and guidelines are followed by the few who do show up - thank goodness.

My heart goes out to you @BelleStarr a friend of mine has a friend who lost her husband to that horrible disease, I met him 6 months before he passed. I remember how sad his wife always looked. I think he was about 73 or so when he passed. Gloria is still kicking but all those years caring for him left her skinny as a rail.

@BelleStarr I'm sure you will, that is the best way for us older folks to exercise, with me it wouldn't be too good because if I would fall I would drown.

Yes they are very serious about keeping members safe, they want to remain open and in CT we have very low rates of contagion.

@BelleStarr Does Al do Tai Chi? So what do you do in the class? I have heard of it, but, do not know what they do. Nice pool you go to in Florida.

It depends on the teacher, some use equipment like noodles and weights and others just have us do a simple exercises and lots of walking. And no Al doesn't do Tai Ci but I have been thinking about joining a class with him or doing it online.

So glad you are able to resume water exercises. I would like to do water exercise (doing laps) but there is not a pool close to me and buses make it hard with their limited service because of the virus. I would love to find one that purifies some other way besides chlorine as it is not good for the skin
