Debt Problems

August 3, 2020 9:25am CST
I don't know how to say this without sounding so upset about it... I just hope to express my frustrations and let a bit of steam outta my head cause it may pop if I hold it in a little longer. You see, my mom died last april and we are already more than 30k peso in debt for medications and other needs for my mom since she never wanted to be hospitalized and stayed at home. Those debts are from loan sharks which means double the inerests from normal loans you get from banks and microbanks... I also have no work yet because I was stuck in Cagayan de Oro during the pandemic and stayed at home. My brother works at the pineapple field, which pays just the minimum pay. With the amount of debt needed to be paid per month, my two younger bros might not have enough to get by. It is my responsibility as the eldest and its so frustrating knowing I cannot even help them. If its not stressful enough, my Mom's siblings would want us to repay the money they have spent and borrowed for my Mom's care and funeral. If it's me, I'd understand if they would hate me. But my brother cannot even disobey them, has been a very good niece to them and yet, they cannot even help them a bit. I just find it so mean. Its not like we asked for that money and spent it for leisure and fancy stuff. They were spending it for their sister, who's suffering from breast cancer. This might sound so selfish but, I wasn't saying saying that we're nit gonna pay them back, atleast, not now. I just wish they would not hurry us too much and understand cause we still have a lot of debt and we don't have our parents anymore. It's so frustrating and painful. Sorry for ranting it here guys. Sometimes, its way better to say it to people who would give honest opinion that to family members and might create problems.

So sorry about your Mom and all the money that you owe. Not easy to deal with. Is there a community where you live that help others? What is 30k peso in American money?

Unfortunately, no, there are none. I guess 30k Peso is $600 if the exchange stays at 50php per 1 USD

I am sorry to hear that passing away of your mom. May she rest in peace. Just commit everything to the Lord whatever botherings and problems you have right now.. With him everything is possible. 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him Because he cares for you

I was kind of hoping that my mom's family would do that, especially because those debt were for Mom's medication. But I guess not, cause they are also expecting me and my brother to repay the expenses or the money they spent for her. That made it a lot more stressful cause I feel like me and my brothers only have each other now. But I know we can get through this. God will provide.

have you tried asking your baranggay captain?

I think the barangay might not help because that was a personal debt my mom made when she was still alive for her medications. Maybe if we actually asked for money at the barangay while she was sick, they might have given us help. I also am not sure but I think the barangay gave some assistance for my Mom's burial, and for the expenses during the wake.

That is very true. I always hold on to that thought a lot. It helps me keep going and stay possitive despite all these hardship I am dealing with right now. Tho it's never easy, atleast I have motivations.
