No matter if its fast food or as a cashier, or foundry work....its everywhere! Help wanted signs. NOW hiring. Why are people not working? There is no reason to complain about no work.

Well you are right lots of places are hiring if you want fast food or retail work for next to minimum wage. I'm in that situation right now, can't find anything that pays decent. Even without the bonus unemployment that ran out the end of July I make more in normal unemployment then I would at minimum wage job.

It’s the same here. The lockdown has everyone stuck; those with medical issues are in even a worse situation because they are getting fired.

I am sure that people are afraid to go back to the workforce because of the virus and also some can't because of having children at home. Maybe all that will change when schools open again and if they even open.

@marlina My grand daughter went back to work at Amazon, but she has a live-in babysitter which a lot of single parents don't have.

A lot of people want to get unemployment because they make more from not working right now then if they where working. So they are using the system. Slowly people are being dropped form unemployment. I can understand if your higher risk now working but a lot of places are trying to offer those away to work from home.

I know a couple that get more from unemployment than when they worked so they are not going back to work until they have to,

Unemployment is at a high here. Companies cannot hire during these times, people are still staying at home with their children. Work will return when we get thru this pandemic.

I have been thinking the same thing. Everywhere I go there are help wanted signs. All over our city. My only thought about why people aren't applying for and working these jobs is: 1) they are afraid to work right now because of the virus; or 2) they were on unemployment and collecting that $600/week check from the government (which is more than what most people made when they worked).

@lovebuglena I don't mind the government giving a helping hand to those in need during this crisis, but I thought that $600/week was way too much for most families. They should have made it equitable to everyone by paying them the average of what they were making when they were working. I agree that with that much money coming in many people had no incentive to look for work.

They were getting more from unemployment and gov't help ($600/wk + stimulus). Why go to work when you can stay home and make more?

Because they'd rather collect that unemployment check then do a decent day of work.

May not apply to everyone but many got more from unemployment and extra gov't money than from their job, so it was better to be unemployed. This may not be true anymore though because the $600/wk is no more.
