Yesterday was another interesting day! Things started off slow and it took about 30 minutes before I got my first ride. But then I got ride after ride, after ride. Almost all of them were short rides of people that were getting off work and heading home. Most were tired so they didn't really have much to say. There were three notable rides though - The first was a young lady that was about a 20 minute trip. She was studying to take her real estate exam for the third time. She said that after filing the first two times that she couldn't survive being unemployed so she went back to work as a bar tender for a couple years. She's grown tired of the bar scene, guys constantly hitting on her, lonely people wanting to talk and expecting her to listen - keeping her from tending to other customers. She said that she's done some time working for her father doing demolition and that after getting out of an abusive relationship it felt good to go into a building and just destroy things. We briefly talked about the abusive relationship. I just don't understand why guys think they can abuse women. Later was another young lady that was going out to meet her friends at a club on Palm Beach. She came out in a walking cast and crutches so you know what we started talking about - yep - the broken ankle. She's a horse rider and I think she said they (her and the horse) went to do a jump and she came off the horse, attempted to land on her feet, and broke a portion of her tibia. So now she has a plate and several screws in the ankle. We talked about physical therapy and how it's humbling when you can't do things for yourself and have to ask/depend on others for simple tasks. It turns out she's a realtor and has been able to work from home. She talked about how she's selling houses virtually and doing pretty well at it. One of my last rides of the night was a young man from New York that works at Rocco's Tacos in downtown West Palm Beach. He was going to be covering the outside eating area but since it was raining they didn't expect any outside customers so they allowed him to go home. We talked about how he liked working for Rocco's Tacos and how they worked as a team. He educated me on waiters "tipping out" which I kind of always wondered about but since I've never been a waiter I didn't know all the so called rules. That was pretty much it. There weren't a lot of people willing to get out in the rain so while I stayed busy, I didn't have a tremendous night financially. But there's always tonight.
