(You can find the poem Snow, by Louis MacNeice below).
Upon reading this poem, Snow by Louis MacNeice, I realized how short and to the point it was. Usually, poems I read for college are extra-long and absolutely boring to read ninety percent of the time. So upon seeing this poem with only four verses I was beyond happy. But it is taught in my school (especially with my literature classes) that one should read a poem at least twice. The first time for an initial reaction, as I'm writing here, and a second time to really get into it and understand it.
At first I only saw the nature and thought to myself, "Oh, it's just about the snow outside, okay?" But as I read on, a line that stood out to me was, "World is crazier and more of it than we think," (Louis MacNeice). And when I read that, that is true, our world is crazier than what we consider normal. Despite this poem being written in 1967, this statement still holds true to this day. Every day something new happens and hey, look at this year alone, 2020 is basically a bingo card of what can go wrong with twists and turns. It is crazy.
I really like the last line, and my brain wants to go back and analyze it, and maybe even write something based off of it, but that will have to wait for another day.
All I can really say is that this poem makes you go back and think. It makes you look back at our history and our present, and what could possibly be our futures. When it snows again, maybe I will look out the window and see how everything in our world is constantly changing.
(Please let me know what you thought about the poem if you decide to read it!)
