Question For Today: Are You A Early Early Riser?

Do you need the assistance of an alarm clock or does your body arouse you each day? Many people regularly awake by 8:30 AM or even a bit earlier for jobs, breakfast or other daily routines. But what I'm talking about, are the people who are up by 5:30 or earlier, wide awake and ready to go!
There was a research study done at the University of Utah that found genetics to play a part in some who are early risers. It seems they had multiple relatives who woke up extremely early, too.
Actually, there are some advantages to "the early bird gets the worm" philosophy of early rising. The study speculates that these people might even be healthier than people who are night owls: Late bedtimes are associated with some negative health consequences, such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
People who awake early also benefit from the rise and shine philosophy because they are looked upon as go-getters compared to others who wake up late being labeled lazy.
Of course, staying up for family obligations can be a real handicap if you are an early riser. Especially when your body says it's time to rise and shine at five or earlier each day. That can lead to some major sleep deprivation!
So, that leads me back to my original question. Are you one of those early, early risers? If your not would you want to be? If you are do you find it an advantage in life?

Ben Franklin would love that statement. He of the quote "early to bed, early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy and wise."

I'm always up early in the morning, that's how my internal clock works and it always has. My disadvantage is, my husband is a night owl! He always stays up late.

I bet your a productive person too! More time to get things done.
Waking early helps improve concentration. Brains tend to be most alert in the morning. If you’re able to focus without interruptions early in the day, you’ll get more done.
Do you also go to bed early?

Well, we need some night owls to balance out all those early risers, lol. Not everyone has the same sleep patterns or can adjust to waking so early...

I get up at 4am for work. Does that count as an early riser? Most days I will wake up on my own just minutes before my alarm clock goes off.

@dgobucks226 I’m a night owl by nature. I’m most alert, productive and focused late at night, rather than early in the morning.

@moffittjc Interesting how some people are just the opposite. One thing in common early mornings and late evenings are extremely quiet as the majority of people are asleep.

Yes, I would say that qualifies you for the early riser club! Waking early helps improve concentration. Brains tend to be most alert in the morning. If you’re able to focus without interruptions early in the day, you’ll get more done.
And less stress from having to rush off to work!

Does 2:30 AM qualify? Yes, I'm an early riser. I don't need an alarm clock. I do find it advantageous to be up early. I get a lot more accomplished and I find my brain works better when working either here or on my book. My Fitbit calls me a lark.

@dgobucks226 That's true. I don't believe in being late or leaving with just enough time to get where I'm going. I never know when I'm going to be delayed by trains or boats and on rare occasions, it can be both. Totally inconvenient. Too stressful to live like that. I prefer being early everywhere I go. No stress, and more time to socialize if that's the case, or more time to get work accomplished.

@dgobucks226 I go to sleep around 10:30 pm, but I read before sleeping, I never sleep more than 6, maximum 7 hours, surely my brother sleeps more hours than I do.
I do not know if staying up late in the evening brings bad habits, like munching late in the night, that is very bad for our body.

It seems the early riser gene was passed down to you but not your brother. Well, you make a great point about waking up early and health benefits.
Early risers often go to sleep earlier too allowing them to get the 7-9 hours of sleep usually required of adults.

I wonder if that mixes up your sleep pattern. I know when I do that I find myself really tired sometimes and in need of a nap. Does it affect you that way?
