We're home from the endurance ride

We came home quite early from the horse endurance ride. We usually stay overnight but we had finished taking photos so we came home. It’s much more comfortable here and we can start processing the photos. The group had a very successful ride through pine forests and along a disused railway line. In the photo is a mother and her daughter. The mother is a veterinarian and if she isn’t riding, she can often be found in the vet ring, vetting other people’s horses. The daughter has been competing since she was about ten and is now about fourteen. The daughter’s pony is a brumby (Australian wild horse) which was bought very cheaply some years ago. It has completed in several 160 kms rides as well as numerous 80 kms. They look to be enjoying themselves, don’t they?

Horses are such beautiful animals. We had a tragic accident yesterday here in Switzerland during horse jumping. The 26 young girls who was riding has fallen in front of the horse and the horse has "jumped" on her. She has not been saved unfortunately.

I'm really sorry to hear that. These accidents do happen from time to time.

@JudyEv This is the second in 15 days and both girls were 26, what a tragic coincidence!

@LadyDuck Really? That is very sad. I fell off my horse many times without injury but it's different over jumps or travelling at speed.

They do look to be enjoying themselves. The pine forest in the photo looks very similar to the ones my son and I like to go camping in throughout the year. Hard not to enjoy yourself when you're in God's country! So I see rider 2, and rider 4, but 3 seems to be missing! Or is that rider 3 that you can barely catch a glimpse of in the background? lol

@JudyEv Maybe there is a 3rd family member who chose not to participate in this ride? Or did you perhaps see someone else wearing #3?

@moffittjc I washed all the bibs once for the association and from memory I think No 3 was missing.

They used to be given a number for each ride but with the COVID, they are now allocated one number for the whole year. I don't know why mother and daughter don't have consecutive numbers. lol

@wolfgirl569 Most of the endurance horses here are Arabs. There are a few standardbreds (trotters) too. They are also tough.

I think most of us are afraid of stuff we don't know much about. I am very wary of animals like camels and alpacas but only because I don't how they behave and react.

@JudyEv That's exactly what happens to me, I feel like when I'd be riding the horse this could get mad and knock me down on the floor!

They do look happy but the happiest one is the horse on the right or so it seems. Fantastic action shot.

@rebelann She was laughing. Vince has jokingly asked earlier if they could gallop through the water so we could get some action shots. So they did this for us.

Most had a great time. Those that do 80 kms (roughly 50 mile) are pretty tired by the time they get home.

Good that you have such to enjoy your time there especially now as most of outdoor sports are nixed due to the virus in many countries. Life has to go on for sure - siva

Our state has had very, very few new cases and all have been in people coming in from overseas. We have been incredibly lucky but need to stay aware and follow the guidelines.
