Let's move our song trivia quiz to the heartland of the U.S. with some tunes about the state of Indiana. And to introduce these "I" titled songs is another state with that same letter... Idaho.
So let's give a listen to this song with it's own "Private Idaho." A beautiful state with an abundance of potatoes to boot.
Hope you enjoyed that tune. I sure did and after hearing it, I have a desire for some mashed potatoes,
And now, here are today's song trivia clues. Whodunnit?
1. In this song the man has shot and killed someone who insulted his wife. Talk about over reacting in defending his ladies honor!
Anyway, in the tunes lyrics he's wanted by the Indiana police and on the run. So, he's in hiding and not going to be heading "back there." An unusual song theme but catchy sounding, and the tune reached #5 on the charts. The inspiration came from the writer observing cop cars surrounding a store with sirens blasting, to arrest someone who had broken into the establishment. By coincidence the artist was also watching a Bonnie & Clyde movie at the same time. Go figure! When this song hit the charts in 1970, this singer became one of the few white artists to score a hit for Motown Records. Although the artist wrote some successful songs for Motown, (Dianna Ross's Love Child), this was his only big hit in the U.S.
Any idea what this Indiana-titled tune is and the artist who recorded it?
2. I enjoy old musicals and today's trivia song was sung by Robert Preston in this one. The tune has the name of this Indiana city in it's title and lyrics. That city was also the birthplace of the "King of Pop," Michael Jackson. This highly acclaimed film also featured Shirley Jones as the librarian and Mr. Preston's love interest in the movie. The movie's plot centers around a con-man (Preston) who talks the town of River City, Iowa into starting a marching band. His plan is to rob the money the town pays him for instruments and band uniforms and hop a train out of town. Today's mystery song is one of the many catchy fun tunes in the film. This 1962 classic also featured a very young Ron Howard playing the son of Marian the Librarian.
Do you know the name of this Indiana song with a city/state for a title and the movie musical it was featured in?
3. Bonus: Our video performers today, the B 52's, had another fun song that had a crustacean name for a title. It also featured mentions of other sea creatures: sting ray, manta ray, jellyfish, dogfish, catfish, sea robin, piranha, bikini whale. This new Wave 1979 song had a surf rock sound along with crazy lyrics like "Down, Down" which made for some funky dance moves as dancers would literally sink to the dance floor in imitation to those words.
Do you know this funny titled song by the B 52's?
Ok, time to "make a strong statement" and get some correct song and artist answers. Remember a name of a U.S. state is part of the title. If your stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as the group The Four Tops might say, "Reach Out and I'll Be There."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! Until next Saturday...

1. And to think, R. Dean Taylor is Canadian! Can’t say anything bad about the Hoosier state, because I’m there for a golf tournament this weekend!
2. Robert Preston has NOTHING on you as the Music Man! That’s true in Gary or anywhere else in Indiana!
March on! You great rock lobster!
The Lohaina Trio plays this wonderful Hawaiian march tune! The other side is "The Repasz Band March".
