The male papaya

In the picture is a fruiting male papaya. Only the female are bearing fruits and a papaya tree (or plant) is called male when it doesn't bear fruits. But in the picture is an abnormal male papaya that produced fruits. Although the fruits are many but they will not grow anymore. However, they will mature and can be eaten.

I think payaya tree can produce fruits by self polination of flowers by bees and birds. In my house there was only 1 papaya tree and it bore fruit although there was no papaya male plant nearby.

The gender of the papaya is just a moniker to classify a tree that doesn't bear fruit. It has nothing to do with pollination like the avocado tree that needs a male and female to pollinate.

@Alexandoy papaya trees can be male, female or even both in same plant. Truly god's creations are so unique.

@lovebuglena he was actually very proud of his papaya because it is a strange tree with that kind of fruit. But the fruits do not grow much, they ripen already about the size of an apple. The taste is good.

@moffittjc if there is a fruit then it is better than nothing. And in fairness, the fruit is small like an apple but sweet and nice to eat.

The gender was only a name. Since a male human cannot produce so it is used in trees that do not bear fruits.

The gender is just a name but not really scientific. When the papaya does not bear fruit we call it male.

@sophie09 take note that it may be only in our culture. In other countries they call the male papaya tree barren.

Maybe that papaya is just a late bloomer and happened to be a female. Or it can be hermaphrodite in plants.

the gender of the tree is only a moniker of sorts because human male do not have children so when a tree does not bear fruit it is called a male.

My mother planted a lot of papaya tree in her garden. Some of them are males, and just like yours, they also have fruits (not all of them tho'). Papaya is a really delicious fruit, and we can use the fruit's skin to make our hands smooth.
