What did you have for dinner last night?

I went grocery shopping yesterday. Sadly, Safeway didn't have several of my favorite frozen dishes. But I did score some wine, milk, Gatorade, back-up dishes, etc. To celebrate, I decided to eat none of it and ordered my $8 sushi special (to go, of course) from my favorite local Japanese restaurant. It was delicious as always, and just filling enough for a warm (almost hot) evening. What did you have for dinner last night? Anything special. Anything a horse could cook with clumsy hooves?

I started with a 15 years drink of Bowmore followed by a glass of champagne. Then I had a piece of foie gras with roasted toasts and a sauternes, roast beef with a ratatouille and a saint-émilion (only ten years but not bad), and I ended with a big piece of a fruit bavarois. And an old cognac. We were seven, it was a dinner for a wedding (kinda) anniversary.

What are back-up dishes? My dinner last night was fried Chinese eggplant with sesame oil, boiled pelmini (Russian dumplings) with sour cream, and then a cherry puff pastry with tea and cheese. Your sushi looks good. Been craving for some sushi actually. Maybe it's time.

Well, they didn't have frozen turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes, so I bought chicken with mashed potatoes. They didn't have my favorite chicken pot pies, so I bought something else. Your dinner sounds good, and different from what I have had. Go for it!--the sushi was yummy, and I had some left over for brunch the next day.

@TheHorse Yesterday for dinner I had lazy vareniki. Vareniki are iike perogies but they are lazy because there is no dough. It is just the filling. And the filing is farmer cheese. You mix that with egg, flour, sugar, and salt, roll them into rectangular pieces, and boil. Then add some butter, sour cream, and a sprinkling of sugar on top. They are delicious.

Did you but olive oil on your pasta? That's become on of my "staples" (I add a bit of Parmesan/Romano cheese).

@TheHorse This would make a good fall meal. I made it from scratch, so I ignored the recipe. A pound of hamburger, pizza sauce, onion, green peppers - I didn't put those in, they don't agree with me, pasta and shredded cheese. With my diet, I used alternative cheese and veggie pasta. The recipe calls for Velveeta shells and cheese dinner.
