Many parents suffer from postnatal depression after child birth. Studies have shown that, about 10% of new mothers experience post natal depression. It is also believed to affect fathers. New mothers are advised to seek help once they notice they might be suffering from this condition. It's is treatable and most of the patients recover fully after a few months.

One of my friends suffered post natal depression after her baby girl was born in 2002. It lasted for around 4 months which made her life very challenging. Health Visitors hand over from Midwife Care. They do a paper assessment to see if the new mother is suffering from post natal depression. If she is then they give her lots of support.
