How to build discipline for my kids?

I have 17-month-old twins. They are active all day and seem to never run out of energy. Whenever at the meal time, they always walk around and try to grab every dish. I tried to make them sit still but they started to cry, then my father-in-law told me not to do that anymore. I'm afraid if I let it go, they will become uncontrollable. But it is difficult for me to teach them to behave in my own way because I live with my parents-in-law, who always let them do what they want. What should I do?

That's a natural thing for toddlers to do and it's a natural development process. The best way to discipline a child is to be disciplined yourself. Your children imitate you under your skin. You can set the rules and expectations in an age appropriate way.

@lminhchi This is one age where they learn everything by imitating and doing.

Yes. I found out they like to look at adults working. They often ask me or grandparents to hold while we are doing something.

This is a common problem that new moms face. Trust me, it might feel like they're getting spoiled by their grandparents and somehow we tend to think that controlling is disciplining. But t is not so and grandparents know a lot better about parenting from their many years of rich experience. So relaxi. Don't stress about it. Your kids are going to grow up just fine and happy

Thank you very much. They indeed have brought me many experiences that I haven't had before. Sometimes I got angry with them but that feeling can't last long when I see their 'innocent faces'.

@lminhchi Yes dear... I've been through it as well. Infact, from my own experience many times I've thought that while we always give so much credit to a mother, the child is in no way any lesser in creating that wonderful mother. We change our life and ways so much and try to bring out that best person in us only because of them. Enjoy your motherhood, for it truly is the greatest blessing

Discipline is very important and from a small age itself. Otherwise it is hard to control the kids later

Grandparents spoil their grand kids and so it's better to let the kids do what they like . Scolding them will make them to avoid people.
