This week's quiz travels to the home of World Champion boxer Mohammad Ali, The Kentucky Derby, where the horses "Run For The Roses," and of course music, as in Bill Monroe, "The Father of Bluegrass." And do you know what state were using for our mystery songs? That's right, "K" as in Kentucky...
So, like those thoroughbred horses in the Derby, let's enter the gate and take off running with Patsy Cline's version of "Blue Moon of Kentucky." Written by the aforementioned Bill Monroe.
Hope you enjoyed Miss Cline's cover of that song. I sure did... sorry Elvis.
And now, here are today's song trivia clues. Whodunnit?
1. In this sentimental soft-rock ballad song, a desperate man (the singer of this song) goes on a cold and rainy search for the woman who left him without explanation. His heart was broken, and in the song lyrics he "wanders on a lonely Kentucky back road," looking for her in the rain. I'm sure the man had a suspicious mind wondering why his girl left him. This tune reached # 3 in 1970 on the Adult Contemporary Charts for this Memphis based artist. That artist died at the age of 42 in 1977. His love of eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches, as well as many fried, greasy foods made for a poor diet, and probably contributed to his early death.
Do you this sad Kentucky song and the artist who first recorded it?
2. This song was a top 40 hit in 1967 for this Brooklyn born native. Performing in front of teenage girls on a 32 city tour, night after night, was this artist's inspiration for writing this song. However, he did use the term for a grown up lady instead of using girls when coming up with the tune's title. It was written while in the back of a limo in Paducah, KY heading to one of his concerts. This performer is arguably one of the most famous Jewish male rock stars out there. He is one of the best-selling artists of all time with ten #1 chart hits, and 38 total top tens, causing some people to refer to him as "The Jewish Elvis. "This artist gets asked to play "Sweet Caroline" all the time, but he says his favorite song to perform and sing is "I Am...I Said."
Do you know the Kentucky song written and performed by this Jewish pop/ rock star?
3. Bonus- "Blue Moon of Kentucky" was the first song recorded by this artist for Sun Records along with "That's All Right Mama." This performer's energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style literally put rock n' roll on the map, as he became the leading figure in this new popular sound.
Can you name this King of Rock n' Roll?
Ok, let's get into a "positive state of mind" and get some correct song and artist answers. Remember a name of a U.S. state is part of the title. If your stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as the group The Four Tops might say, "Reach Out and I'll Be There."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! Until next Saturday...

Well, howdy, and welcome to Kentucky! Want some tea? (“Sweet” is a given here.)
1. Hey, didn’t I just use this song that the then-unknown Eddie Rabbitt co-wrote? That old truck driver from Tupelo was pretty fond of Kentucky, wasn’t he, even in the cold Kentucky rain, ay ay ay ay-n. (PS, it isn’t very cold right now!)
2. That guy on the Brooklyn Road is sure a Diamond, isn’t he!! He wasn’t singing about me or Lori because we were only Kentucky GIRLs then.
3. And here you left off Father of Bluegrass Bill Monroe, who was obviously born in Kentucky (or it’d be called Buckeye music or Hoosier music ) in referencing “Blue Moon of Kentucky!” This guy, Pelvis something, did he take his name from Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis?
Rock on!

Great responses and funny P.S.- I believe Mr Diamond (his real name ) did reference grown up girls in the tune "Girl, you'll be a woman soon."
