Gun oil and wood.

I put some gun oil yesterday on the metal parts of a wooden tool, and today I find a tiny part of the wood looks discolored. Does the wood absorb gun oil and get rotten? I am a bit worried. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much, DianneN! Yes he confirmed much to my relief that wood is not rotten. But I still need to know if absorbed oil softens the wood. Because I need to oil the metal parts of this wooden tool once in a while.

Any wood will absorb oil. But it should not make the wood "rotten."

Much relieved to know this! :) Could the absorbed oil make the wood softer than before?

I am not sure about this but as The Horse said the wood absorbs the oil.
