Gee, didn’t these guys dominate the last series of songs from Canadians and songs with “America” in the title? Why, yes, they did! They are so deserving for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as evident by the fact that you know those songs — and this one — despite the fact that it’s 50 years old!
No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature - Guess Who
Oh, go on....
I didn’t know for a long time that the “geniuses” at RCA had actually split this song, making the “No Sugar Tonight” part the single and omitting the “New Mother Nature” half. I guess, in 1970, the idea of a line like “a bag of goodies and a bottle of wine” was still controversial.
It’s a great tune, and if I were ranking these instead of doing most of them alphabetically (there is a top ten coming later in the month), this would be at #11. One — or two — of the Guess Who’s best.

Written by Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings
Recorded by the Guess Who
From American Woman, 1970
