Negative effects of wearing a face mask

Wearing a face mask has been made mandatory as a way of curbing the spread of Covid 19. The mask also protects you from infections caused by other viruses and bacteria that live in air, and that makes it very essential. But do you know that wearing a face mask also has negative effects on your health? For instance, it lowers the amount of oxygen that you inhale, hence lowering the oxygen levels in your body, leading to a condition known as hypoxia. Wearing a face mask also forces you to inhale back some of the carbon dioxide you exhaled, and this makes your immune system weaker. So if you can, don't wear a face mask all day. Remove it when driving alone in your car, and whenever you're are standing/walking alone. Has face masks affected you in any way?

We have to wear a mask in any business or office in this county. I live in Florida where it is now very hot and muggy. The mask makes it hard to breathe and is often wet from sweat pouring down on it. It is also hard to hear when someone speaks to you. It sounds like mumbling. They say that wearing the mask creates a stew of germs that you breathe in. But they make us wear it.

They are only concerned about the Covid 19, and care less about other adverse effects. I think they should also educate people about how the mask, however essential, it's going to negatively affect the wearer.

@Mbenieve It is probably a good idea to wash it each day and to have more than one so you can switch them out often.

@akalinus that's right. Also choose the fabrics well, I hear some people are allergic to some fabrics.

I thought the scientists said that it doesn't affect your breathing badly at all. But form my experience with CERTAIN Masks, some make me out of breath when I wear them for a long time. I don't dispute wearing them...I think wearing them really does prevent the spread of germs.

@Mbenieve they do not have any negative health effect as long as you keep it clean and change it daily.

Face masks are very crucial especially during this period. But they also have a number of negative health effects that people should be aware of.

I don't go out much (and even less during the pandemic), so I haven't worn the mask enough for it to affect my breathing. But I AM kind of annoyed at all the people who think they're wearing a mask to protect THEMSELVES. Sure, wearing a mask protects you A LITTLE; but it's mostly'to protect everyone else from the virus YOU carry.'

@Mbenieve Well, no one is "clean." Even if you've been tested and are verified as 'not carrying the virus,' the virus can STILL find its way into your system if you spend any time with other carriers! Kinda like they say that everyone over a certain age is usually carrying around cancer-cells (that have not latched onto any of your organs, and hopefully get flushed out before they can start eating you!)

Wearing a face mask does not reduce your oxygen. This is a hoax shared so many times that people think it is fact. A doctor demonstrated that his blood oxygen levels did not diminish even when he donned 6 or 7 mask over one another. Surgeons and nurses have been wearing masks for extended hours for years...no ill effects. Marathon runners have worn masks for the entire race because of allergies....again....no drop in oxygen levels. If you don't want to wear a mask....stay home....please!

@Mbenieve I wore a face mask for many years as a part of my job. I won't say they were comfortable, but they didn't bother my breathing. They removed the dust and particles making it easier for me to breathe at the end of the day when I could breathe fresh, clean air. Most of people's issues with masks are a product of their fears.

I'm convinced that it does affect breathing. Of course I'm staying at home, and I always have my mask on when I'm out in the public.

I don't wear a mask unless I have to. Healthy people wearing masks all day is just plain senseless but that's just my opinion. Like it is my opinion that healthy people should not be quarantined or locked down.

They argue that since the virus is highly contagious and probably airborne, you should wear a mask when interacting with other people or stay at home, because apparently you can't tell who's sick and who isn't.

It also gives you mask mouth, where it gives you bad breath and cavities. They are not good for you at all and it will make your immune system go down.

I suspected that things like you said in your post happened when wearing a face mask! In fact, I have seen on the news that people go jogging wearing the face mask, and I was like how do they breathe through that thing? How much oxygen goes to their brains?

I know a lady who hates the masks because she is breaking out along the line of where the mask hits her face. Those things are so hot, and make one's face sweaty.

Facemask is not needed when you are at home and all the family members are healthy . Avoiding mask while driving alone is ok but you will need it in a crowded traffic stop. Walking on the street with public around also require you to wear facemask. Facemask can be avoided while exercising , jogging or cycling alone.

It depends on the type of mask used. Most of the time, masks are used as a fashion style rather than a virus deterrent.
