I Do Not Like This at All!

Congratulations to our grandson, in the red goalie outfit, for bringing his team to victory to win the finals in ice hockey. I was sent a video text by my daughter-in-law and another one by my older son, showing how his team dog-piled him (jumped on top of him at the net) after the win. I do not like that! I did not like seeing that. I also do not like that none of the kids are wearing a mask!!! I do not like that! What is not shown in my photo is that one coach IS wearing a mask, while the other coach has his mask hanging below his nose. I do not like that! You better believe I mentioned that fact to my son and daughter-in-law. Now, my son is taking my grandson far from home to join another ice hockey team that he was invited to for a three day tryout. At least my daughter-in-law found an Air B&B that is sterilized between guests. I still do not like that at all!

I'm very surprised that the organization is not taking better steps to protect the players and coaches from COVID. I agree with you, I do not like anything about what you reported. But it just goes to show that sports is big business, even at the youth level, and I guess that trumps safety. Here in my city, all youth sports leagues, practices and games are banned, for the safety of the kids.

@DianneN Well, I can only hope that your grandson doesn't contract the virus, or doesn't become a transmitter of the virus to others.

I thought he was only going to practices where he was required to wear masks and social distance. My granddaughter is only going to figure skating practices where only a few girls go at a time and practice with masks and social distancing. I guess NY and NJ have there own agenda and it bugs me to no end. My son is nuts for letting this continue.

Congrats grandson! Hey, he's a big kid! Older than I assumed. Yeah, I don't blame you. I don't like the (apparent) lack of precautions either. Sanitizing the room is a good thing, but I think it's far more risky to me so close to so many people like that

@FayeHazel He wanted to play hockey since he was 2 years old. He even asked a coach if he could play with the 8 year olds since he didn't wear diapers anymore.. The coach let him, but the kids were too rough and he did some figure skating until he was 7 when he returned to hockey. He cried once when the coach wouldn't let him be the emergency goalie, because he never had lessons. Soon after, he had lessons, went to goalie camps, and practiced like a lunatic. The rest is history. lol Yes, it's maddening, Faye!

Too many people want to pretend the virus isn't happening and it is business as usual. Congrats to you grandson and team though. My nephew used to play goalie for his soccer teams. He wasn't into running around on the field constantly...lol. In fact he told my sister, he wasn't interested in playing any sport that involved a ball.... He ended up swimming competively.

@DianneN Goalie is arguably the most important player on the team. Nephew is about average in athleticism, he plays water polo now, but just kind of on a recreational basis. His college has an IM league of sorts..course with Covid nothing is happening now..

I guess you are right! I'm totally surprised that my son would allow this!!!! Thank you! He's a great tennis player, horseback rider, and goalie. He is sought out to play goalie for so many teams. However, he should just stick to practice with a mask and social distancing. I don't know how this got so out of hand. Congrats to your nephew! He seems very athletic and good in what he chooses to do.

@DianneN You tell 'em, Mom! It's hard because while people say they are staying safe, I am finding that people do little things here and there that are actually not safe. I do think we all need to live and move forward, but it has to be in the safest ways possible . . . we have to continue to be cautious and not forget that .
