Save a Bee; Save a Life

Each year over 1 BILLION pounds of insecticide are applied to acres and acres of crops in the US and an estimated 5.6 BILLION pounds worldwide. More than 95% applied pesticides miss their target, reaching nearby people, wildlife, waterways, soil and air. It takes two hives or 60,000 bees to pollinate one acre of an orchard and when you consider more than 20,000 poisonings among farm workers and others who live or go to school near the fields; well then it explains a lot in increases in diseases. Brain damage in children, liver and thyroid impairment, reproductive harm and cancer; not to mention that the bees carry the insecticide back to the colony. Considering that the honey bees pollinate more than 1/3 of our nations crops; this is serious both for our health and safety but also the economy. We must keep pressure on the FDA, EPA and Dept. of Agriculture to stop this madness. earthjustice.org

I am glad that this country were I live have banned most insecticide, all herbicide containing glyphosate, that is well known to kill the bees, but that most countries have not banned.

It isn't just the honey bees, all bees help pollinate so that we continue to have fertile seeds to plant more trees but you're right about those stupid people using all those pesticides, they have no regard for life in general.

Why do all these food companies think they need to poison us @rebelann ? I guess if it can't sit on a shelf for a year, it's worthless. You can bet all those CEO'S of those companies don't even touch what they make; they can buy the expensive Organic Food. The bas**rds.

I agree. And if bees die, the planet could die too.
