Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon. It's one of the major festivals that Chinese celebrate. We always eat moon cake during Mid-Autumn Festival, and kids always like to play the lanterns and candles. My neighbor learned to make jelly moon cakes. These are the ones she gave to me. These are three different flavors with different fillings - corn, yam and red bean. Though there are still many people like to eat traditional moon cakes, jelly moon cakes seem to be quite popular in these recent years. Have you tried jelly moon cake or traditional moon cakes?

Yes, there are so many different flavors and new styles coming up. But I still prefer the traditional moon cakes with the lotus seeds paste or red beans, perhaps the more traditional ones. I like jelly moon cakes as they are like desserts.

I like the traditional moon cake. I'm missing it. Traditional is still popular in HK.

Are you from Hong Kong? Where are you staying now? Traditional moon cakes are also popular here in Malaysia, but some people like to eat these jelly moon cakes, especially the kids. They are cold and sweet.

We usually have these moon cake molds to make them, mostly with flowers and some Chinese wordings.

@kaka135 They look pretty, our molds are usually heart shaped or simply round without decorations.

@thelme55 These are what remind me about Mid-Autumn Festival: 1. lanterns and candles - kids always enjoy playing with these 2. moon cakes - the traditional food that we always eat 3. riddles - some will put a riddle on each hanging lantern, and others will guess the answer. 4. reunion - as round shape symbolizes reunion and the moon on this day is always round and bright, hence it's a day for families to gather together and eat! Perhaps a month before the festival, we can see lanterns and moon cakes all around in the shopping malls.

Yes, I am always grateful for having some wonderful neighbors. I wish I can give them something in return, but I am not good at cooking or I am too lazy.

Yes, it's sweet. I should take a picture after I've cut the jelly moon cake. It's like jelly, but inside the moon cakes, there are different fillings - one is filled with red bean, one with corn and another with yam. I heard from my neighbor, she has to cooked all these fillings first. I am not so hardworking on making these jelly moon cakes. I just make normal jellies without any fillings.

The moon cakes are usually sweet. I used to like them when I was younger, but now I think they are too sweet for me. But yes, I think they look good too. The packaging for those commercial ones are also very pretty and creative.
