I Remember the Moments Very Well

Three years ago today I lost my Dad. I was holding his hand in his hospital bed. I stayed by his side for five days. On the sixth day I watched him take his last breath.
The photo above was hanging in his hospital room. I took the photo because of moments we shared the day before he passed on.
He made sense only part of the time. But I listened to every word. He told me he could have painted that picture. And I agreed with him, and said yes you could have.
I remember all of the words shared between us. And am so glad I was there with him until the end.
I miss you Daddy.

@CarolDM I'm sure it meant everything to him, also.

@1creekgirl Since I was the only family member left, I stayed with him around the clock. He was on hospice in the hospital and I was told it would be any day. One of the hardest times of my life. Watching him and nothing I could do. But I was there and I am grateful for that time.

It is such a honor to be with our loved ones when they leave this world

I'm sorry, again, for your loss. I'm glad you could be there to say goodbye to him.. I would hate if I couldn't be with my mom.

I lost my Dad in 2014. I miss him so much and I still feel very sad.
You have sweet memories of your Dad.

A painting to cherished because of the story behind it... I know your dad is happy because you remember him... somewhere over the rainbow...

I guess today is a hard day for you. At least you have lots of positive memories. Mine was at the doctor today. He got a reasonably, clean bill of health for someone with dementia...although they said his heart rate is a bit too low and the meds probably need adjusting and they want him back for a stress test on the 15th.

It's painful to watch them have dementia, because in essence you lose them twice: once when they forget you, and once when they pass. The last time I visited my aunt before she passed away I don't know if she thought she was talking to me or my long-deceased mother...but I smiled and held her hand nevertheless.
God bless you, and may your dad's memory continue to be a blessing.

Enjoy those memories. I had come home to do chores and was just heading out when my dad passed. But we made sure someone was with him at all times. He made a Halloween magnet that I will always keep before he passed.
