So I have never made a secret of my mental health issues. Sadly, with the insurance I have, therapists are hard to find. I’ve been seeing one for a bit and she insists I have to be in group therapy too in order to see her. It’s not the type of therapy I’m truly looking for and I’m finding it more of a hassle than a help. So last night, I informed her via email that I was discontinuing therapy.
I’ve been seeing a therapist in one form or the other for ten years now. I’ve had good and bad experiences, but I’m doing great currently and want to focus on my new job and just enjoying life. I can always go back to therapy as I need it in the future.
The therapist’s reply was quite unexpected. She told me I cannot quit and she’d see me at my regular weekly appointment. I’ve replied that I am unable to attend and am cancelling. She has my credit card on file so I locked the card - in case she tries to charge me for the session anyway. It’s creepy, being told as an adult that you ‘can’t’ make the decision you are making. Her saying that only makes me more sure quitting is the right thing for now.

You were right to cancel that and they cannot charge you unduly now

Wow that's odd she would tell you not to quit and to keep seeing her. It's your decision if you still need it or not - only YOU can decide that. Hopefully she doesn't keep emailing or calling you for you to come back. Glad your doing well though & enjoying the new job and life you have for yoruself.

She must not want to lose the $$. How rude! You must focus on yourself, not what others want you to do.

You were right to make that decision. She can't force you to do what you don't want to.

The good decision my friend. Here you save your hard-earned money.
