There's more than one way to filet a fish...or

...I thought this mind picture might be more palatable to all the animal lovers out there rather than the old saying that originated back in the eighteen hundreds about skinning a cat which is said to remind us there's more ways than one to achieve a goal. This post isn't about fish nor about cats, sorry rebelann, but it's about notifications. There's more than one way, the more obvious way to find your notifications for when you are behind or been gone awhile, or whatever the case may be. The obvious way is to begin at your notification page itself. Another way is to go back through your own posts to find any later commenters you may have missed. And you can also look at your own activity page and check the comments showing under each post. You can click right on the comment to see if anyone replied or even saw it. The final way that I can think of right now is to look back through your friends more recent posts that you commented on to see what you may have missed but that might be more time consuming than the other options. So, if you ever feel bad for missing notifications because they've fallen off the page then there are other options to consider. Another more common option is to sign up to get email notifications. Those will stay in your inbox until you delete them. I don't choose to use that feature because I already get too many emails to keep up with. Also for those that don't know each response or comment stays on your notification page for about seven days, give or take a few hours because we can't see exactly when we wrote them. (I was going to find a pic of plant but I'm going with a keto snack instead that I made last week. I used zucchini cut in bite-sized pieces, topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni bites and baked). If my image doesn't show it needs more cropping.

There is also another way to avoid to miss notifications, go to your settings and ask to send an email. I clear mine every day.

@MarshaMusselman I do not need the email system, I always clear the notifications every day. It happens I have a few left for the day after, but I never stay one week without removing them all.

Others reminded me of this way too. I will adjust my post. That way would possibly be the simplest but I get way to many emails already to add more plus 8 don't clear mine each day and I get far less than you do.

@LadyDuck most times I do well but not always. It depends on the weather where and how much work we have.

I did miss some notifications after I had no Internet for two weeks but my usual method when I get on here is to go through my notifications and answer and then go to discussions.

I'm sure the normal way for most of us that are here semi regularly is to use the notifications themselves. I think we also start fresh with new discussions when we've not been around in a while forgetting there are other options if we choose to use them.

@MarshaMusselman well I cannot possibly make up for all that has been going on here for two weeks that I missed but I sort of float around as much as I can and do discussions, top-rated discussions, and interesting ones to see what's happening.

@RasmaSandra I'm not taking about reading two weeks worth of discussions but being able to read and reply to anyone that responded to your own before you lost the internet.

I go to my discussions and work my way through, commenting on each response and trying to respond to other comments. I also go from there to interact with others who have commented and responded on my discussions.

I do it that way too. And a few times I've gone back looking for new comments I may have missed in older posts.

Don't be sorry. The picture of those delectable goodies has made me hungry. Oh, you can use settings to have notifications emailed to you, that's what I do but I had make sure not to check all the options, that would be way too many emails.

I've opened 5 emails for different reasons but I usually only use one of them @MarshaMusselman I'm thinking about using one of my other emails for some other sites I use.

@rebelann I have several email accounts to but rarely look at the extra ones. Filling one with mylot emails might freak me out lol. Plus I don't have enough time to check them against what I've already gone through from the mylot notifications page

I forget about that one because I choose not to get more emails than I already do from everyone else.

I always check my oldest notifications first, to make sure I respond to them before they drop off. I'm pretty good about keeping up with all the notifications, it's very rare that I miss one. And I do try to answer/respond to each and every notification.

I work my way back and forth between the newest ones and the oldest for the same reason. But if I'm not around for a bit I might miss a few and I have other options many don't think about.

@MarshaMusselman Sounds like you have a great system set up to help you get through all your notifications without missing any!

@DianneN I forget something when I work from the beginning to go to the end and work backward from there. While I do try to do that, too, weekly I might miss a few. I think there are several if not more members here that need to leave periodically and don't realize there's other options to finding where they left off when the notifications have disappeared.

@MarshaMusselman It happens. However, I try not to get too far behind and always make sure I respond to my notifications first.
