I feel sorry for those around 17 who already have depression. These ages are life's best and it only gets harder in adulthood. I heard some who are even depressed at 3 years old due to genetics. It is no joke of an illness. Only those who experience it knows. Those who never dont have any idea, and even if they do, they are mistaken. I am an adult and able to manage it. I have only mild symptoms. I am happy with my life and it is getting better by the day.

It's unfortunate that people of such young age go through this sad state due to genetics and other factors. In my career as counselor I have come across people from all age groups struggling with it. And the stigma attached to it and lack of awareness in society makes it even more challenging for them.

@yoalldudes You know you have won your half battle when you have accepted the condition and do not feel bad or ashamed of it. If you keep yourself vulnerable people might misuse your condition to bully you or make you feel more miserable. Once you are okay with yourself, you are in control.

@arunima25 That is true what you said. Right now I am working on my chakras. Do you believe in these things?

That is true. I started to just be silent or joke around about my condition which makes it more acceptable.

I completely understand. Depression seems to run in our family. That and bipolar. I also suffer from depression but like you, I am able to manage.

@yoalldudes Normally I have a lot of sunny days and have the stormy days about once every month or two. Now with my brothers passing, I'm having more stormy days.

There are sunny days and stormy days. I have to remind myself during a stormy day that it will pass.

It would really be hard to have severe depression. More often than sometimes, when others will know about it, they will misunderstand and think it is simply your fault for feeling pathetic and sorry for yourself and advise you to man up and think positively not knowing it can be insensitive and a serious condition. I guess the best thing to do with people, whether they have depression or not is to understand and be kind towards any man. With such, maybe we can help them a bit in their condition. I found philosophy to have helped me in times of depression. How do you cope with your depression, as you say, you have mild symptoms but when we reach a certain breakthrough, the mild can be much bigger.

I am happy to hear your good understanding of this issue. Like you, philosophy too. I have a job to keep me busy as well. On weekends I also walk around town center by myself. I dont mind if I am alone. I try to be happy with my own company.

@yoalldudes That's great! What philosophy are you currently studying right now? Mine is stoicism, from Marcus Aurelius Meditations to other ancient philosophers. (hehe) Like you, I also like walking around town, almost every day if it doesn't rain after work. I don't think we really should mind if we're alone or not. Sometimes the best company is with ourselves. There's a phrase that states, "Alone but never lonely." Do you think it applies to you? Or do you feel loneliness as well?

@dannytist I'm delighted to hear you enjoy walking. It depends if I am happy then I got myself good company. But when negative thoughts are plaguing my mind then they are horrible company. Enjoy your study of stoicism. I am more into minimalism these days.
