It just crossed my mind after reading some part of an old novel. Honestly, I don’t like the way it has been written since it’s hard to understand.
In the past, writers supposed to choose words that not so many people can comprehend. I wonder why they have to do that.
Thank goodness that the modern writers don’t have to deal with that writing style anymore. I’d rather use simple words for everybody to understand my stories.

Writers in general have never consciously chosen words 'that not so many people can comprehend'. Most writers write to be understood and enjoyed and they use a vocabulary with which they expect their readers to be reasonably familiar. If a writer's style seems stilted and peculiar to a modern ear, it is simply because that style has fallen out of fashion. In order to read novels which were written many years ago, you have to appreciate their style and vocabulary in order to understand them properly.

Sometimes 'the muse' inspires writers to write works for a specific audience (that doesn't use the words of the wider audience). One does not question 'the muse,'

There are some books I just cannot read because the writing style is just too hard to comprehend.

I couldn't agree more. If writers would use simple words/terms then more people would be interested in reading.

Like Anna says language has evolved. I know one book read the author had put a dictionary at the end of the book which explains some of the hard words.

I read a writing advice somewhere before: Try not to use words with more than 3 or 4 syllables.
Unless your genre is humour and the long words are spoken by a 6-year old child. Calvin and Hobbs is such a favorite with my 9-year old son.

As a poetry writer we often used deep words to make the poems more creative... For me, it is just okay with me reading nobles with not very known words because at least I will learn something new...

I am with you on that. I like to get my point across so people can follow what I am saying.
