Let me just say this (in a good-natured way): if you don’t know what the top three songs on the list of favorites with “hey” in the title are, then you haven’t been paying attention. I suppose the “pecking order” is the only thing in question, so I’ll get to work on solving that. This is not #1, but you knew it was coming.
#3: Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny) - Elton John
Remember, the purpose of this countdown was to use a Ted Nugent song for JJ, not to include this song again.
But I can’t leave it off. It’s a beautiful tribute to John Lennon, complete with the anger (“it’s funny how one insect can damage so much grain”) and sadness (“and with every drop that falls we hear your name”).
This December will mark 40 years since Lennon’s death. While many wrote tributes, this stands head and shoulders above most of them.
