Water is the simple truth in our life. Although many people are aware that our bodies require a lot of water, for most it remains one of the hardest facets of achieving or maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Water. Those endless glasses that we are encouraged to drink. Why and How?
What are the benefits of drinking more water? There are many, including:
1. Stronger, healthier teeth and bones
Surprising? It’s true. The additional fluoride added to our water supplies provides extra srength and density to our teeth and bones. Milk may do a body good, but water will save your teeth and bones.
2. Clear, healthy and vibrant complexion
Many people buy expensive products to eliminate or decrease wrinkles or unsightly blemishes from their face, necks and bodies. The best product, however, for a clear, beautiful complexion is water. Some good things in life are practically free.
3. Regular bowel and urinary functions
This may not be the most popular subject, but it is one of the most important. Maintaining healthy urinary tract function is imperative for a long, happy and healthy life. This is also true for our complicated digestive systems. So keep your body functioning at top peak with pure, natural water.
4. Weight Loss
Now this one is very popular. You can never be too thin, right? Actually, while that sentiment may or may not be true, it is true that your body requires more water to metabolize properly, and to maintain a healthy weight. So, if for no other reason, drink your water to achieve or maintain your healthy goal weight.
How can we drink more water? It may be easier than you think.
1. When water freezes over
Fill two 32 / 33 oz water bottles with water, and place in the freezer overnight. In the morning take these out and carry with you in your car. With our temperatures in the 90s and 100s it melts fast, so at those stop lights, or waiting in those terrible long traffic lines, drink up the cold, icy water. It makes you feel better, quenches the thirst, and gets in a lot of water towards your daily goal.
2. Set a 2 drink limit
Make the habit of drinking 2 (8 ounce) glasses of water before you eat any meal. This makes you eat less, helps your digestion process, gives you time to "cook" if you're the one doing the cooking, and if you do this every meal you are well on your way to a daily goal. This is a great method to use for those who are compulsive over-eaters.
3. By land or by sea
No matter what kind of exercise you engage in (walking, running, biking, canoeing, hiking, etc) water is the one to travel with. This is an instant fluid replacement and keeps your mind alert. So, exercise in good health, with your water bottle by your side.
4. TV Temptations
If you find yourself snacking while watching the tube, place a large bottle of cold water by your remote and when you reach for the chips, pretzels, or popcorn, reach for the water. It will keep you from choking, and also substitute for the high calorie, high sugar sodas that your body does not need.
5. Drive Through the Water
When you have to order fast food (or if you just want to order it) save your kidneys and your pocket book by ordering water instead of soda. Ask for the large with plenty of ice. You'll be amazed at how refreshing and easy this one is!
