Recently I attended a seminar on cashew by products. In this something I really got interesting is that about the Cashew nut shells that are biomass wastes that can provide energy through different ways. They can either be submitted directly to any thermo chemical conversion process to generate energy or used to generate a bio crude, known as cashew nut shell liquid and a solid cake.Cashew nut shell liquid is found as an important and powerful bio-oil whose calorific value is comparable to that of petroleum oils. May be in future this bio fuel could be seen as an alternative

In Meghalaya, Western part of Garo Hills, is suitable to grow cashew plantation and profitable however in the Northern and Eastern part of Garo Hills Meghalaya, Cashew nut is not suitable because of soil difference. So,many of farmers focus on Rubber plantation, Orange and Bettelnut and leaves plantation.

For extracting Cashew nut Shell liquid processing units or factories are much needed. May be it is comething that could take much of by products from cashew. I feel every place climatic and other conditions give favourable to certain crops and fruits that are suitable to that specific conditions.

@amitkokiladitya may be humans don't learn from the lessons that nature give us... those cylones, eathquates, floods, etc... still humans go on expoliting/ hurting nature... still nature goes on giving its resources... but there is a limit for everything beyong that it could be unpredictable

A raw Cashew nut shell may contain over 20% shell oil.By using expellers for extraction, it is possible to extract a further quantity of about 10% more from the shells. Thus,it could be assumed that from 1 tonne of shells upto 100 liters of good quality of cashew nut shell oil could be extracted by using oil expellers.

Seems there is lot more things in this nature that can be used from those things we feel as waste ....but its awareness in society at times lacks to be reached every corner...
