Here is a trivia series featuring songs with the word "Baby" in its title. Now, baby is either a newborn infant or a young woman with whom one is having a romantic relationship or trying to. These tunes focus on the latter and that term of endearment has been used quite often for song titles. So away we go with that guy who just wants this girl to be his "Baby."
Today's video expresses those feelings perfectly in a song by the group Bread (a funny name for a band) called "Baby I'm-A Want You" from 1972. Enjoy this longing for love....
Now it's time to name those songs and artists who want their "Baby."
Whodunnit?
1. This classic oldie from 1963 was produced by Phil Spector and became this group's biggest hit and only top ten song hitting # 2 on the charts. This is very simple song about a girl who is trying to convince a guy she likes to give her a chance. She let's the guy know from the time they met how smitten she was, and feels this could be a forever romance if he'll just be her "baby." This all girl group had another popular hit in 1964 called "Walking In The Rain." In 1986, the lead singer of this female vocal group, whose first name was Veronica, sang parts of a Eddie Money tune called "Take Me Home Tonight." This song became Money's biggest hit and also revived the career of this female singer. Fun fact: Cher was used as a backup singer on this mystery song.
-Do you know this "Baby" song and the female vocal group who recorded it?
2. This song was their first single for Motown Records which signed the group in 1963, after they had been touring and recording on smaller labels for a decade. It was a great investment for Motown as this foursome had 16 US Top 40 hits from 1964-1970. This baby-titled mystery song is about a guy who is lonely and heartbroken, desperate for a love that will never return. In the tune he pleads that he just has got to have all of that woman's lovin'. This vocal group was among many Motown acts; others included The Temptations, the Miracles, Martha and the Vandellas and the Supremes. Their signature song was "Reach Out I'll Be There" # 1 on both the R&B and Hot 100 Billboard charts. This Motown group reached the "highest point" in the music business. In other words these 4 guys reached the ___________.
-Do you know this "baby" song and these Motown Legends who recorded it?
3. Bonus- Today's video song "Baby I'm-A Want You" by the soft-rock group Bread was written by the band's keyboardist and vocalist David Gates. It was the band's trademark song charting at # 3 and becoming a Gold single. Gates as a solo artist recorded a theme song for a hit movie in 1977 which also became the film's title. The movie was based on a play by Neil Simon, starred Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason, along with an adorable little girl who played Mason's daughter.
-Do You know the name of this 1977 Romantic Comedy Film and theme song?
Fun fact: Richard Dreyfuss won an Academy Award for his performance as Garfield Elliot in the movie. At the time, he became the youngest man to win an Oscar for Best Actor.
Ok, let's not "cry like a baby" by not getting any correct song and artist answers. Remember, "Baby" is part of the song title. If your stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as the artist James Taylor might say "You've Got A Friend" if you need some help.
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! Until next Saturday...

Totally agree with your Frampton comment Saw him in concert also and what a terrific performer/guitarist. I imagine Baby I Love Your Way just might show up somewhere later on in my music trivia series, lol. Peter also recorded another "Baby" song I liked called Baby (Something's Happening) Thanks for the comments!
Peter Frampton starting his Charlotte, N.C. stop of his Final tour with this killer song. As shot from Row 2 at the PNC Music Pavilion 8/30/19.
