Monday has dawned bright and beautiful. Great weather for a walk (which I’ve already done), and great weather for another song with “Sally” in the title. Uncle Joe referenced this song earlier in the countdown, and I told him to hold that thought. Okay, Uncle Joe, you can let go of that thought now....
#4: Sally Was a Good Old Girl - Hank Cochran
Or Roy Clark. Or Waylon Jennings. Or anyone of a hundred others who’ve covered this song over the years.
The first person to record it was the great songwriter Hank Cochran (one of many Hanks in the Hall of Fame). Oddly enough, he didn’t write it. His friend, Harlan Howard, did.
As long as it got out there. It’s one of those fun songs that found a home in country, pop, and just about everywhere else.
