Good Afternoon

It's sunny and warm outside, and cold to the point of shivering inside. They keep the rooms cool and in order to turn up the heat they need to put in a work order. So I sit in my hoodie with a blanket wrapped around me.
OT - Occupational Therapy was here this morning with arm strengthening exercises. My arms are pretty strong so I did a lot more reps of the exercises she had me do than she expected.
I also need to do breathing exercises. This makes certain I don't get pneumonia while I'm here. And I need to put the ice machine on my knee to bring the swelling down. I do that in bed so I can have my knee higher than my heart with three pillows under my knee. I take a nap while I have the ice machine on my knee. I need to do that a couple of times a day. Which makes being here limited with all the sleep I'm getting.
I found out the pain medication I'm taking causes drowsiness. I wondered why I was so tired when I got up when I normally do and an hour later I'm ready for a nap. It's the medication.
I have one nurse upset with me. She said I'm being rude. I'm trying very hard not to be rude. She tried to put a bib on me, and I took it away. I uncovered my plate and told her I couldn't eat what they gave me. I couldn't. Yes, it was on my diet, but I don't have upper teeth and they gave me raw veggies: cauliflower and carrots. I couldn't chew those if I wanted to. So, it's been a trying day. I'm not trying to be rude, but it's coming out like that. I did apologize.
The staff is limited. They really need more help. This facility has a whole floor unused because they don't have the staff. So, when I turn on my call light, yes, it takes time for a nurse to get to me. There are 18 beds on this floor.
One of the nurses who came to help me is very nice and we got to talking. Now, I was in a nursing home five years ago. That nursing home closed down and the staff have gone to other nursing homes. The nurse I was talking to was from that nursing home. She told me a couple of other nurses from there are also here. She's going to send a text message to one of them and let her know I'm here. She was my favorite nurse when I was there. It will be so good to see her.
Okay, the nurse who thought me rude surprised me. The gal from the kitchen just brought me my veggies, steamed so I could eat them. She's a good nurse, I only hope I can redeem myself in her eyes.
I just redeemed myself. I apologized to her and she did the same. We're all good. And I'm crying. There are rude people in this world. I'm not one of them, or at least I try very hard not to be. I've been on the other end of that spectrum with people being mean and rude to me and I don't want to be that to anybody.
Okay, that's my day so far. Let's see how much I can accomplish now before I need to put this away and do something else.
How is your day going? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me. I think I'll find a bay picture.

@popciclecold Thank you. Yes, so will I. I've got a ways to go. My next surgery is November 2nd and then more therapy in the nursing home.

Oh Valerie, I must have been away for a while, did you have surgery on your knee? I can't imagine you ever being rude to anyone and I am glad that nurse got you steamed veggies. That should be on your menu board that you have to have soft food to chew, I hope she added it. You recover quickly and Im glad you will have some nice nurses there for you to chat with.

Day is going good here. How many staff members (aides and nurse) are on your floor. I worked as a CNA both in nursing homes and assisted Living facilities and we were always short staffed (and in some assisted living they expect the aides to do the housekeeping and laundry too along with being responsible for 12 to 15 residents with varying levels of care need)

@just4him Three or 4 CNAs here would be considered overstaffed even on day shift. Here you were lucky as an aide on day shift if you had only 10 residents assigned to you. Often when I worked in a nursing home on the 3 to 11 shift I would have as many as 20 residents (once we were so short I had 25).

Hello! I'm glad that at the end you could both apologize, I hope she understands that you weren't tried to be rude or anything, maybe they could have known that you can't bite on hard foods, but at least they know that now.
I woke up a bit late today and I'm just starting to work for the day, I'm drawing a few pumpkin stickers for the season, hope you have an excellent rest of the day :D

Unless I tell them, they're not going to know. It was okay. Yes, it's good we did. She's working today.

I’m sure it wasn’t you Valerie The nurse is probably having a difficult time if they are short staffed.

You are not rude. Though, we can all seem like we are here and there. Even when we don't try to, unfortunately.
Glad you both apologized and can move on from all that. And that you got food you can eat now

I am glad that you have a friendly face around to help you through this. It does not sound like a fun time and I bet you wish you were home where you could have heat on if you want. It is too bad that nurse did not understand you and thought what you did was rude. I am glad she did that for you and she does not know you. You are so sweet and kind that she has no right calling you rude. I hope you will not have to be there longer than the 10 days.

Maybe you both were having a bad day. It can take time to teach them what you are used to for food also. Dont let it bother you. Just start new tomorrow.
