Close to Losing Everything

This pic is of a fire burning in Colorado that they believe was human made. Its called the Cameron Peak fire and it has been burning since early Aug, it has burned many miles of land through the mountains and is now threatening the house my father built for my mom.
I grew up in CO and we bought our cabin when I was 9. My dad built the house the year I graduated and moved the family there. I have lived there several times and raised my kids for 4 yrs there.
Fire now threatens the home we love and I know this is one of the biggest place to get the amount of prayers we need. This is all my mom has left of my dad since he passed 11 yrs ago, I am worried that if her house burns down, she will have nothing to live for because the only thing she wants is to live in dads house in those mountains. We had to take her to my sisters and all she knows is that there is a fire but she has no clue how close it is.
They have high winds up there yesterday and today which has moved the fire very quickly, last I heard it was 1 mile from the village. This pic is the village for the town of Red Feather Lakes, you can see how close it is and how big.
Please, we need prayers that this fire doesn't take out this whole town, there are so many that live there and have had these homes (like us) for over 50 yrs now. It is their lively hood and they can't lose them. Thanks
Have you had to live through a fire and start over?

These fires have been so destructive and wide ranging. I have friends in California and worry about them. To me this is very much a wake up call about climate change. Hope the wind shifts and the town is spared along with the family house

Thank you Ron, they are destructive and are even worst when people set them on purpose. I have family dealing with it as well in CA, some of those were set as well. I am sorry your friends have to go through this as well, I hope they are all safe. The winds are shifting but in the wrong direction, just got word it has make it to one of the 8 lakes in the town, its coming through and there is nothing stopping it with the winds.

My prayers are with you. I did live through a fire and I did start over. My daughter was a toddler when it happened. She got our dog out but did not get her glasses. Those years after were not fun times for us. We leaned on many people then and lived in some not so funny places but we survived.

That sounds awful, I'm glad you were strong enough to make it through and glad she grabbed the dog, glasses can be replaced. My mom is 84, I think if this house goes up she will give up because its the only place she wants to live the rest of her life. Thank you for the prayers

Prayers sent and so sad you are dealing with this. Can you take some things out of the house in case the worst happens..or spray it down or something?

@cintol I guess making plans in advance is the best, and hope they are not needed.

I live in Texas, my brother, nephew and mom live in the house. My brother put things in storage last month to be safe so most of the memories are not in there but the house is our biggest memory and I don't know where mom will go if its gone. Thank you for the prayers, they are needed.

@snowy22315 Yes, a lot of the residents got storage units and too their special things down to them. Would rather that then lose all the things you can't replace

I will be keeping your mom and all the people of Colorado in my prayers that they are spared from the ravages of the fire.
Our family home burned down when I was a kid, so I know all about losing a home in a fire and having to start over again with nothing.

@cintol Any news on the fires? I really hope it doesn't destroy the house, since it is so special to your mom.
It's funny, I'm sure it was traumatizing to me as a kid, but I really don't remember much about it now. I think our brains have a tendency to minimize negative experiences and/or bury them deep down in the memory banks. It's like I remember that it happened, but I don't remember it being bad or negative for us in the aftermath, although I'm sure it was.

@moffittjc Thanks, it burned through the night and has hit the edge of Red Feather on one side, one of our friends lost their home last night. It has burned through a lake but they have been doing well in holding it from the road. We will get an update tonight at 7:30 and find out where it has moved too. This morning they said it had burned 124,000 acres now (it was at 111,000 when I wrote this post.
Well I guess its good you don't remember much, I would have thought you would be terrified of fire now as an adult. I am and have never been in one!

OMG, that is terrible that they have gone through it twice. We had always been lucky on the mountain and haven't had many fires in that area to worry about but this one is a monster. It was classed as the 3rd largest fire in CO quickly moving to be the 2nd.

@TheHorse Thats promising for you guys, are they getting the fires out there yet?? My mom and brother got notification today that they are back on voluntary evacuations now so they can go back but be prepared to evacuate again. My brother went back up to work today, mom will stay away for a bit longer as the Mullen Fire is heading down their direction from Wyoming now.

Its a really scary thing, they got a little snow up there today but they say it didn't stick. The fire is so hot and so big, its burned 124,000 acres so far and many miles of land. One of our friends lost their house last night. Update is that cooler weather is there tonight and it will help them try and secure the edge, fingers crossed.

Hope the fire doesn't reach your home.
Is this the one which started because of a gender reveal party??
such fires do occur in Tirumala hills(that's my place), Wildlife was destroyed in the past, and tigers and cheetahs come down to the town.

Thank you Heather, my brother got to go back up yesterday. They are now on voluntary evacuations, they say they have stopped that part of the fire 1 mile from the village but it might start back up with the winds.

Thats tough to get through things like that. I am so sorry you lost your house due to health issues.
Thank you for praying, yes there are over 1000 fighting it but they are slowly getting containment, last they reported it was 30% contained, they are still working on the part headed for my moms town but they think they are getting it under control. Some of the firefighters are her fire have now moved to help on the Mullen fire that broke out in Wyoming and crossed the CO border. It is now moving toward my moms town as well but it is a long ways off yet

Oh, thats awful, I am also glad your house wasn't close by but losing the business had to be tough as well.
Thank you, the fire is still burning and they are still fighting it by her but it is looking better every day so hopefully she can go home soon.

Thank you, my moms house was saved, they stopped the fire 1 mile from the village. The fire has however, burned over 207,000 acres and the winds shifted and took it to the southeast which burned a lot of homes. They are still fighting the fire and another has started which is almost as big now. They got snow today and it will snow into tomorrow so they are hoping for a chance to get more of it contained.

@Nakitakona I hope your right, if they even have a conscience for what damage they caused others.
