Saturday Update - September 26th

Happy Saturday night; and Sunday to some.... hope it is all going well for you all. Things are alright here....thought I would update on the day, on family, etc... My great-grandma (who is 96) had her surgery today. Not sure exactly what surgery it was....but she had something going on with her stomach. She had the same exact issue (and surgery) 6 or 7 years ago. She made it through the surgery just fine, and should be able to go home in 2 or 3 days if things are improving. She can go back to her own home and continue to live on her own as long as she has someone come and help her out daily (like home health). I know she would not want to live anywhere other than the home she has lived in all these years. My grandpa goes for his PET scan on Monday, as long as his blood sugar is under 200. We checked his fasting sugar today and it was 97. Got to do it tomorrow and then Monday before they drive down. It would be a wasted trip if it was too high. Just want him to be able to get the test done and see if it is cancer, or the other thing it could be. Other than family health; I spent the day with my mom and Eli. We went to Wal-Mart to get groceries. I did get some low carb/keto foods; things like bacon, heavy cream, low carb wraps, sweetener, sugar free chocolate chips, lower carb cordon bleu, etc.... I need to work on my consistency with sticking to the low carb lifestyle. I guess work on cheating only on Saturday and Sunday, then only one of those days, then only one every other week, and so on... I should really save carb days for special occasions (holidays, birthdays). But I am not there yet. What do you all think? Photo is mine, one I took a while back at the local greenhouse. My great-grandma worked there. After she retired, every year they gave her a gift card to get flowers....so I'd always go with her (and other family would go too).

low carb is hard. I tried for two years and failed. I finally decided to give up bread completely.

@DocAndersen Well that is good you still allow them some. I need to cut out bread and potatoes but still have them sometimes.

Low carb is very hard! That's great you tried it for that long though....well if you gave up bread that seems like a success. My trouble is giving up potatoes lol

@CarolDM Not sure it was "good results" but we think it is the better of the two...and it's good to have an answer after all these months.

I am glad too, and she is doing pretty good. No news on his PET scan today, but they should know something tomorrow. Not sure they will call my grandparents though....if not I think the next day my grandmother will call. We need to know ASAP if he has cancer or what....

With the keto diet it is easier to stay on when I eat low carb. I have less cravings and more will power. Exercising really helps me too.

@MommyOfEli2013 yes, it would be much easier for you if you ate veggies. I’m lucky that I love vegetables.

@Tampa_girl7 But I don't see myself ever liking, or eating them. That's great you love them

I am glad that it is easier for you doing it that way, and exercise. I think I'd have less trouble sticking to it if I was not a picky eater...because I'd have more options. I could eat some lower carb veggies for a side but the only veggie I literally like are potatoes and they aren't keto at all! LOL

I'm glad your great-grandmother's surgery went well. Sending positive thoughts for your grandfather's test on Monday. Just keep working at the low carb diet. You'll get there! Beautiful picture.

I am so glad it did too, we were worried about her having surgery. Thank you, I sure hope the test goes well and tells us what is going on with him! Thank you about the picture :) And I am not giving up on the diet, just need to work on having less carb days. in 2021 I am going to focus on keeping the carb days to maybe 1x a month unless it is a holiday/birthday. For the rest of the year, just focus on keeping those days to the weekend and trying to lessen it each time.

I am glad too....and I hope so. His sugars were good yesterday and today....so hopefully they won't waste the trip in the morning.

I hope all goes well with your great-grandmother. I hope your grandfather can keep his blood sugar low enough to do the PET scan. The picture is very nice.
