Yarn!

United States

So, I've started following a new (to me) yarn enthusiast on youtube. She makes lots of cute crocheted things, and has been doing yarn hauls lately. I came across a video she did a week or so ago where she reviewed mystery yarn that she got from walmart.com. Apparently, walmart (online only) has assorted yarn you can buy. It looks like a bunch of returned skeins with no labels, half used etc. I think that it isn't quite worth the money, though. It seems as if they could knock the price down a little, especially as the yarn they are selling has already been written off as damaged...

I think you have a yarn addiction. :-) That's OK. It's not harmful...and it's fun!

I still have three full shelves to fill with yarn. I am thinking I will treat myself after Christmas.

Before I bought the puzzle, I thought I might do something with yarn. But my youngest daughter is the only one with a small daughter and she is accomplished at knitting. It is fun though.

I like yarn a lot. There are so many different things you can do with it. Why not latch hook?

@ScribbledAdNauseum And now there are lots of textured yarns that are so interesting!

@marguicha Yes there are. A few years ago I bought a yarn that was more like ribbon. I saw it online and didn't read the fiber content. I ended up using it to decorate gifts.

I saw some super affordable yarn on Amazon. I wonder if something is wrong with it?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Not at all. I just checked for curiosity and they seemed to have the best price less than Walmart.

@snowy22315 I've gotten yarn on Amazon but their prices go up and down all the time. I bought a skein months ago for less than $4 and when I went to get more the other day it had more than doubled in price. I dont know how much is related to covid and availability

I am not sure I would buy those yarns, we can find inexpensive that have not been messed up and returned.

I have been finding yarn companies that deliver straight from Turkey, these are inexpensive, but the cost comes from the shipping.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Overseas shipping is extremely expensive, this is the reason why I do not order from Amazon in the United States.

I'm glad they're making use of it. but I agree that the price should be low.

0.50 to $1.00 per skein and they would still make a profit since they wrote it off to begin with.

It would really go for anything that a company has obviously already written off.

You're becoming quite the yarn enthusiast I dont know if I would trust Walmart with their returned skeins. I hate when I get a new one and find it has knots in the middle

Yeah, the knots is what I would worry about the most. That and you don't know whether the yarn has been in a pet friendly home, a smoking home etc.

@Marilynda1225 I don't mind so much pet hair, but if I wanted to make something and gift it, I'd want it to be free of pet hair.

@ScribbledAdNauseum exactly. I like to make sure my yarn is smoke free and not around pets

Does sound like it should be marked down quite a bit. I like knowing what I am working with. There are little tests you can do, like burning the yarn to see if it burns or melts.

@marlina Do the walmart's in canada have a good selection of yarn? The last time I went to my walmart and checked, they had maybe ten different choices. It wasn't like that before. Years ago you would go and there were two aisles of it.

Right, I don't think I'll buy that yarn. There's another company that this same lady has talked about.. I think it's Yarnspirations? They do a grab bag too. I prefer to pick my yarn out myself.

@ScribbledAdNauseum You are right they should knock down the price on damaged stuff. That is not right.

29 Sep 20
They shouldn't be selling it at all.

@ScribbledAdNauseum You are right they should not be selling it at all if it is damaged.
